🌍 Happy International Credit Union Day! 🌍 Today, we celebrate the legacy of Ontario's credit unions—a movement built on collaboration, community, and putting people before profits. Our credit unions have a long history of coming together to empower one another and support local growth. At our recent conference, we proudly brought together 24 credit unions and 11 system partners to collectively create and embrace positive change. This spirit of cooperation is what drives us forward. As the next generation of leaders, the Ontario Young Leaders are committed to carrying on this tradition of innovation, creating a brighter financial future for all. Together, we are stronger. Together, we make a difference. 🤝 #ICUDay #OntarioCreditUnions #OntarioYoungLeaders

ONYL is a community built to empower and develop the next generation of credit union leaders in Ontario
About us
Ontario Young Leaders (ONYL) – at its heart – is a community. It is a space that exists for young professionals within the Ontario credit union system to motivate and develop one another while also strengthening the system collectively. We know that no matter the size, every credit union faces talent and succession planning challenges. That is why we are passionate about retaining talent within Ontario credit unions. ONYL is designed to build and encourage the leadership capabilities of the talent already existing within our credit unions, so that they do not look elsewhere for this support. Young Leader initiatives are happening across Canada at national, provincial and organizational levels. These initiatives are organic, and can supplement each other’s initiatives. ONYL is currently in our development phase, so keep checking back for more updates as we move forward on this exciting journey.

Today, as we recognize National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, we stand together across all regions of Ontario to honour the experiences of Indigenous Peoples, we reflect and honour Survivors, their families and communities affected by the legacy of Indian Residential Schools. The Ontario Young Leaders community is committed to learning, listening, and taking action toward meaningful change. Whether you're in the North, South, East, or West, we encourage everyone to engage in activities that further understanding and reconciliation in their communities. Here are a few ways we can all participate: 🧡 Educate yourself: Learn about the history of residential schools, treaties, and the diverse cultures of Indigenous peoples in your region. 🧡 Attend local events: Join Indigenous-led events or ceremonies happening near you. Many communities are holding virtual and in-person gatherings. 🧡 Support Indigenous voices: Read books, watch films, and listen to podcasts by Indigenous authors and creators. Amplify their voices on social media and in your community. 🧡 Wear Orange: Show your solidarity by wearing orange and sharing the story of Orange Shirt Day, a movement that honors survivors and victims of residential schools. Together, we can build a future grounded in respect, understanding, and equity. Let’s continue to take steps toward reconciliation in our communities across Ontario. #TruthAndReconciliation #OntarioYoungLeaders

What an incredible Day 1! I’m filled with pride for our hardworking team, I am privileged to be a member of the Ontario Young Leaders, their dedication, passion, energy and collaboration is inspiring. I am also feeling grateful to connect with some amazing young leaders, who are just as passionate about leadership and Cooperatives as I am. I am grateful to Michelle Manary, she taught us about a new innovative approach to traditional leadership and encouraged us all go back to our credit unions and understand our business and find out our challenges and be curious! She also reminded us that we have to focus on all areas of our dashboards; career, health, relationships and play to make sure we show up as good people in every area and how important being full in all aspects is integral to our success and our credit unions as well. A big thank you to the team at #CULA for getting us networking and creating connections and teaching us how to give our elevator pitch. And finally for our Young Leader panel that was moderated by Musonda Yamfwa, PMP I am always amazed at the the vast amount of opportunities that are in our system as well as reminding us that even if we don’t think we are doing enough we must remember that even if we only take one or two steps forward if we lean on each other we can multiply that so much faster! #ONYLEmerge2024
