We get to see some incredible places! PGL’s Sophie Middleton and Teresa Vander Meer-Chasse had an unforgettable adventure visiting the White River First Nation Coffee Creek Camp this summer. They explored the Nation’s Traditional Territory, spotted bear tracks, flew over a massive forest fire, and even found a crushed VW beetle in the middle of the Yukon boreal forest! A BIG thank you to the White River First Nation Members and the Lands Department staff that welcomed us. All images were taken on the Traditional Territory of White River First Nation. #Fieldwork #AmazingAdventures #EnvironmentalScience #NerdyByNature #PGLEnvironmental #EnvironmentalConsulting #WhiteRiverFirstNation

Do you recognize these native BC snails? Swipe left to learn more about them! PGL biologists Elisa, Rayan and Serena found many native snail species during a recent survey. Photograph 1&2: Oregon forestsnail (Allogona townsendiana) and its eggs. The Oregon forestsnail is listed as Endangered under Schedule 1 of the Species at Risk Act. Critical habitat for the Oregon forestsnail includes low elevation (<360m) broadleaf mixed wood and deciduous forests dominated by bigleaf maple, with a dense cover of low herbaceous vegetation especially stinging nettle, with moist leaf litter and coarse woody debris. Photograph 3: The northwest hesperian (Vespericola columbianus) is a medium sized snail, up to 17mm at maturity, and is found primarily in moist forests. A distinguishing feature is the tiny dense hairs on its shell! Photograph 4: The Pacific sideband (Monadenia fidelis) is the largest native land snail in BC, reaching up to 36.55mm at maturity. It is an adept climber and can be found as high as 7m up in trees! Photograph 5: Lancetooths (Ancotrema sp.) are primarily carnivores whose prey can include worms, slugs and other snails, including those of their own species. #Environmentalconsulting #Snail #SpeciesAtRisk #PGLEnvironmentalconsultants #BC #BritishColumbia #wildlifewednesday

This piece was found by Michelle Ashley while working on a remediation project in Squamish, BC. We are not certain what it is. Our best guess is that it was a tooth from an excavator bucket that went through a stump grinder. Today it is a very heavy but cool looking paper weight! Have you ever found something surprising in an unexpected place? Share your stories and thoughts with us! #showandtellfieldfinds #pglenvironmental #environmentalconsulting #metalandstumpgrinders #nerdybynature
