🌟 Women in Project Management Mentorship: Orientation Recap 🌟 We kicked off the mentorship program with an inspiring session focused on learning, networking, and career growth. Participants explored the five essential phases of project management: defining goals during initiation, setting timelines and resources in the planning stage, putting plans into action during execution, monitoring progress to make necessary adjustments, and wrapping up projects with reflections on successes and lessons learned. The session also highlighted the importance of key soft skills in project management. Effective communication, adaptability to changing situations, leadership to guide and inspire teams, and empathy to foster collaboration were emphasized as crucial qualities for success. Our mentors shared valuable real-world experiences, offering practical advice on overcoming challenges and excelling in leadership roles. Mentees left the session with actionable insights and meaningful connections that will grow throughout the program. Mentorship plays a vital role in career development, helping participants expand their networks, receive personalized guidance, and gain new perspectives on managing challenges. It’s Okay to Slow Down and Be Grateful In a world that glorifies the grind, the demands of a 24/7 work culture can feel inescapable. Yet, it’s precisely because of this constant push for productivity that we need to remind ourselves that it’s okay—even necessary—to slow down. Thanksgiving weekend offers a rare pause, a chance to step back from the perpetual race and connect with the people and moments that bring us peace. As Seneca once said, “It is not that we have a short time to live, but that we waste a lot of it.” Taking the time to be present, to savor our surroundings, and to breathe deeply in gratitude can be the most productive thing we do for our well-being. However, embracing this slow-down doesn’t come without fear. For many, the anxiety of falling behind or losing momentum can make it hard to fully enjoy a moment of rest. There is a deep-seated worry that if we’re not moving forward, we’re somehow losing out. But Marcus Aurelius reminds us, “If you are distressed by anything external, the pain is not due to the thing itself, but to your estimate of it; and this you have the power to revoke at any moment.” In choosing to slow down, we reclaim our agency over time and find balance between ambition and contentment. This Thanksgiving weekend, I found myself reflecting on the beauty of simple moments—a warm meal shared with loved ones, the vibrant colors of autumn leaves, and the quiet satisfaction that comes from being fully present. I was reminded that gratitude doesn’t require grand gestures or achievements; it flourishes in stillness. Letting go of the need to constantly “do” opens us up to simply “be,” to connect with a profound sense of gratitude for what is already here. As the weekend came to a close, I realized that slowing down isn’t a loss—it’s a gain, one that enriches not just our work but our entire experience of life. 🎉 Today, I’m thrilled to share an important personal milestone – I have officially earned my PMP certification! 🎊 This achievement holds deep significance for me, not just because of the hard work and dedication it required, but because of the incredible people who helped shape me along the way. First and foremost, I want to express my profound gratitude to my previous manager, Ario Nastaran. I’ve learned so much from you, not only about project management but also about what it truly means to lead with integrity, empathy, and confidence. Your guidance has been a cornerstone of my professional growth, and I am beyond thankful for the lessons you’ve imparted. You have shown me that leadership is not about authority but about bringing out the best in others – a value I will carry with me always. I also want to take a moment to thank my remarkable instructors at PACE – Bunmi Okuboyejo MIT, PMP®, ITIL, CSM, LSSYB, Teslim Akindele, PMP®, Hanif A. Young - MSc., PMI-PMP, and Arindam Sarkar, CSM®, CSPO®, CAL1®, PMP®, ALMI, ACS. Your wisdom and encouragement have been invaluable. Each of you played such an integral role in my development, challenging me to think critically, pushing me beyond my limits, and instilling in me the knowledge and confidence to pursue this certification. I truly could not have done this without your guidance and support. This PMP certification is not just a personal achievement – it’s a reflection of the investment so many have made in me. I’m filled with gratitude and excitement for what the future holds. I can’t wait to take these lessons forward, continue growing, and give back in ways that inspire and support others on their journeys. Thank you to everyone who has believed in me and supported me. This is only the beginning. 🙏 Project Management Institute, PMI Manitoba, #PMP, #ProjectManagement, #Leadership, #ProfessionalGrowth
