Our thoughts are with all those affected by the wildfires burning right now, and especially with our neighbours down the road in Jasper. The community has experienced the devastating effects of our increasingly intense wildfire seasons, and we are heartbroken at hearing the stories and seeing the images coming out of this beautiful part of our country. We send the people of Jasper strength, hope, and our commitment to help in whatever way we can to rebuild this beloved community. 🌲💔

The Project Forest Corporate Planting Events are just around the corner! Have you booked your spot? We're excited to be back in the field with our Silver, Gold, Platinum, and Diamond partners for another year of Corporate Planting. These events in Edmonton and Calgary are a great opportunity to bring the whole team out—from the C-Suite Executives to Summer Interns—everyone leaves with a feeling of having made a positive impact in their community, and of course, a little dirt on their hands. 🌲 For more info on how you can book your team's Corporate Planting event, email us at info@projectforest.ca #OneForestataTime #CorporateEvent #TeamBuilding #Volunteering #ProjectForest

🤔 What do you think is the most challenging part of surveying a recently planted forest? It’s finding the trees! 🌲👀🌲 One- to two-year-old seedlings can be hard to spot among tall grasses and other vegetation. Especially conifers like pine and spruce, they grow more slowly and can easily be missed by an untrained eye—imagine trying to spot them and assess their health from a drone, or from satellites in outer space! 🛰️ We need the data from our Annual Monitoring Surveys to be reliable because we report on it in our Annual Project Reports (which should be ready for you by July 31st!) These reports are a compilation of the data from our on the ground surveys conducted by forestry professionals once a year at each of our planting sites. Check out this #behindthescenes video filmed at Project Forest Golden Ranches to see how we survey our forests. #OneForestataTime #Rewilding

We're thrilled to announce our newest Diamond Willow partner, Shell Canada! This spring, Shell supported the planting of 90,000 trees on Doig River First Nation in northeastern BC, a significant contribution to the greater 46-hectare rewilding project. And in the fall, 21,060 trees will be planted on Swan River First Nation in northern Alberta, in a project exclusively funded by Shell. Welcome to the Project Forest community, Shell! We’re exciting to grow our partnership and many more forests together. Susannah L. Pierce #IndigenousPartnership #Forests #ESG #OneForestAtATime

🌲 Our #ResearchForest is in the ground... Project Forest and the University of Alberta’s Ecosystem-based Forest Management Lab, Silviculture Research Group, and Forest Entomology & Chemical Ecology Lab are planting an experimental forest to study the impacts of #climatechange on our forests. Thanks to our partners’ support, we’re driving novel research, innovation, and providing hands-on training for students, all to enhance the resilience of Canada’s forests. 🌳 In June, we planted 58,560 trees, with an additional 11,244 trees to follow next year. This long-term research forest near Peace River, Alberta, will join a global network of forest experiments, providing crucial data that will shape the future of how we manage our forests. 🔍 “Picture the land like a checkerboard,” says U of A researcher and professor, Dr. Charles Nock. “In some checkerboard squares, a single tree species will be planted, while in other squares, a mix of tree species will be planted.” More than 20 combinations of trembling aspen, larch, paper birch, white spruce, and lodgepole pine will be planted to understand how diverse forests grow, how local and non-local seeds perform, and which combinations of species are more resilient to stresses like drought. 👉 This project is currently open for funding!
