We build natural capital assets for carbon removal and biodiversity in Canada. Founder & CEO @ Wild + Pine | Canada Clean50 2023 | YEG Top 40 Under 40 |
Just touched down in NYC for Climate Week. I’m eager to feel the pulse of the industry as Wild + Pine has been on the front lines of what has been very rewarding, but hard work. And we see the grind on both sides. I’m fortunate, though, to be bringing with me a toolbox of what is needed for building natural capital assets in Canada. Looking forward to the week ahead meeting with other problem solvers, clients, and seeing some friendly faces too. Drop me a line if you’re in town! #ClimateWeekNYC

As the Carbon Manager at Wild + Pine I am responsible for connecting our projects to climate financing and delivering high-integrity assets to organizations participating in our forest restoration projects. Wild + Pine believes that there is a community of forward-thinking businesses that are ready to invest in climate resiliency and nature. However, there is currently a lack of available projects ready to receive and leverage this investment into meaningful impact and do so with clear traceability and transparency on the outcomes of that impact. We are actively developing natural assets in Western Canada through the execution of afforestation-based restoration projects on degraded land. These forest assets act as a carbon-negative “facility” inside of your organization's financial portfolio, reducing the need to treat emissions as a perpetual liability to be serviced through offsetting. As we develop natural assets in Western Canada, our focus is on robust additionally, scientific rigor, and minimized risk in the recovery of forest habitats. We execute projects on unproductive land that has been degraded through decades of industrial, agricultural, or development activities. Returning these landscapes to a healthy forest has biodiversity benefits, increases carbon sequestration capacity, and supports local community economics as we move towards a green economy. We are currently inviting participation in three different project types: StoneWoods Forest Carbon - Our turnkey grouped carbon project that will deliver high-integrity nature-based carbon removals and other registered environmental attributes. Resiliency portfolio - Smaller projects that may not meet the scale required for carbon registration, but still hold tremendous value in specific ecological impact areas. Bespoke - Our expertise lies in the restoration of forest landscapes - if you have ideas on creative ways to leverage nature to achieve your goals we are excited to pioneer some new solutions with you! We are actively seeking climate leaders to invest in our projects and join the work already underway in our portfolio. I would love to connect with you to discuss how you can leverage the power of Canadian forests to meet your climate and sustainability goals.

There is no scientifically-mapped scenario in which we can meet net zero without #naturebasedsolutions, which is why it’s so important that we do it right. More than just tree planting, investing in #forestrestoration with an ecosystem focus, and a landscape-based approach, can create tremendous impact. “Building forests is a scientific endeavour, and ecologists, biologists and forestry professionals must be consulted to ensure that degraded areas are adequately assessed and that a tailored restoration plan is implemented.” - Chris Kallal Read more in the Canada's National Observer: https://lnkd.in/g_5ecn9x #ClimateActionNow #sustainability

Checking on seedlings planted last fall and everything’s looking A-OK👌🏻 The lack of snow pack over the winter had us a little concerned on what the survival rate would be but the majority made it and are bouncing back. When planted properly seedlings are resilient, you just gotta give em a chance! #naturebasedsolutions #afforestation

This #WorldEnvironmentDay and #CanadianEnvironmentWeek, Wild + Pine is celebrating the power of Canada’s forests, with its 367 million hectares of biodiverse forest cover. Legacy, multigenerational forest carbon projects are our country’s best opportunity to help address the global climate crisis, and we’re uniquely positioned to offer investment opportunities in these national assets. To make a global impact on climate change, we need collaboration to create high-quality, truly additional, de-risked carbon assets. Together, we can make a long-term commitment to Canadian forests and our shared planet: http://bit.ly/4bUT27G

Great to see this level of transparency being brought to the carbon removal space by Climeworks. To me, this shows the need for significantly higher levels of investment in carbon removal technology, while also demonstrating the case for complimentary solutions like nature-based removals that can be deployed today while the technological side achieves scale. The future is a balanced portfolio of carbon removals. #climate #carbon #removal #nature #offsets Wild + Pine https://lnkd.in/gB8a_Qnr

While nature is the greatest tool we have to rebalance the planet from the threats of climate change, building forests isn’t always a universal choice for mitigating the climate crisis. Tree coverage of North American grasslands across the Midwest and Great Plains is actually warming the planet in places where trees significantly reduce the ground’s reflectivity. Truly additional forestry assets need to be built with complex ecological interactions in mind, and be highly sensitive to location to create real impact. When executed correctly, #offsetting can be a powerful tool to mitigate the impacts of climate change, which is why we welcome the joint policy statement on voluntary carbon markets by The White House, USDA, U.S. Department of the Treasury, and U.S. Department of Energy (DOE). With enhanced regulation, only the best #climate solutions will be left in its wake. Secure investments that de-risk the #carbon portfolios of sustainability leaders need to be directly attached to tangible, high-quality assets. That's why Wild + Pine creates #nature-based solutions that stand up to the highest standards of integrity. Two of the founding partners for our #StoneWoods Forest Carbon Project, Aviva Canada and Nature Conservancy of Canada/Conservation de la nature Canada, have partnered to further accelerate the development of nature-based carbon removal projects — the $6 million investment will focus on forests, grasslands and tidal marshes. Congratulations to these two sustainability leaders that understand and value the importance of nature in mitigating the impacts of climate change.
