Last week marked the celebration of Rosh Hashanah - the Jewish new Year - and this upcoming weekend marks the holiday of Yom Kippur. Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur (colloquially known as the "High Holidays") are a time of introspection and renewal. They present us with opportunities to contemplate the lessons learned and the challenges faced, as well as the moments of growth and inspiration. They are also a time to envision the future we wish to create for ourselves and our communities. We fill our tables with delicious foods, surrounded by loved ones, and usher in the new year with the sounds of the shofar. We light candles, bless wine, dip apples in honey, and take a moment of pause and reflection. During this high holiday season, we wish all who celebrate a shanah tovah u'metukah and g'mar chatima tovah - may it be a good and sweet year for you and your family.

🌟 A heartfelt thank you to everyone who participated in the Putting for Preemies Golf Tournament led by dedicated community volunteer, Connor Gifford, at the Metcalfe Golf Club on September 21, 2024! Thanks to the incredible support of the golfers, sponsors, and donors, an outstanding $15,561.74 was raised for essential equipment in QCH’s Special Care Nursery, helping us care for our smallest patients! 💙 Together, we are making a significant impact on the lives of those who need it most. Your generosity truly makes a difference! #QCHFoundation #SupportHealthcare #CommunityImpact

Happy Healthcare Food Services Week! Joanne works in Food Services and is responsible for all the International Dysphagia Diet Standardisation Initiative (IDDSI) products. This standard ensures the safety of patients with feeding, chewing, and/or swallowing difficulties. By mincing, pureeing, and chopping food, we can offer a variety of tasty and nutritious meals to patients living with dysphagia. Fun fact: QCH is one of few facilities in the province that prepare these products!

🧡 National Day for Truth and Reconciliation 🧡 Today, we honour the survivors of residential schools, their families, and the children who never returned home. We recognize that this day may bring complex emotions—grief, anger, resilience—and we acknowledge the lasting impact on Indigenous communities. At Queensway Carleton Hospital, we understand our responsibility to address the historical and ongoing harms caused by the health care system. Reconciliation means more than words—it demands meaningful actions to foster trust, respect, and cultural safety, and to ensure Indigenous voices lead the way. This journey is not about a single day, but a sustained commitment to change. Today, we reflect on how we can provide care that supports healing, respects lived experiences, and actively works towards equity and justice for all. As we wear orange, we remember, reflect, and recommit to the work ahead. We invite everyone—staff, patients, and community members—to take meaningful steps towards reconciliation, knowing that every action, no matter how small, contributes to collective healing. #NationalDayforTruthandReconciliation #OrangeShirtDay #CulturalSafety #HealthcareCommitment #QCHCares #ReconciliationInCare
