We love sharing the accomplishments and activities of previous guests on the podcast. Give'r Sutubra Research!
🌍 Exciting Updates from Sutubra Research 🌍 Here are a few recent milestones in our work at Sutubra Research: 1. Climate Week NYC 2024 I’ll be presenting at Climate Week NYC on September 26th, from 3-4 PM ET. This virtual session, organized by Environmental Defense Fund, will focus on how open-source electricity models can accelerate the clean energy transition. We’ll also hold breakout sessions on key topics like long-distance transmission, clean energy policies, and labour impacts. I’ll host a breakout session with Mike Blackhurst (CMU) on current policies and their alignment with deep decarbonization. Other sessions will feature experts from EDF, Princeton University and University of Hawaii at Manoa. You're encouraged to attend! 🔗 RSVP here: https://lnkd.in/gDh-9kn3 2. New Paper in Nature Communications "Diverse Decarbonization Pathways Under Near Cost-Optimal Futures", led by Aditya Sinha, explores 1,000+ near cost-optimal pathways to net-zero for the U.S. energy system. The results demonstrate that diverse pathways for decarbonization exist at comparable system-level costs and provide insights into technology portfolios that enable near cost-optimal net-zero CO2 futures. 🔗 https://lnkd.in/gYhSiE7X 3. New Paper in Environmental Research Letters "Hybrid Heat Pumps and the Marginal Abatement Costs of Electrifying Peak Heating Loads", led by Sean Smillie, is now published. We assessed the costs of fully electrifying peak heating demands compared to using hybrid heating in gas-connected homes. Using a least-cost energy system optimization model, we factored in household, electric, and gas system costs, including electric distribution expansion and gas system cost recovery. Our findings show that full electrification in cold regions is very expensive at the margin, making hybrid heat pumps a valuable solution in such contexts. This is especially relevant to Canada as we craft policies to decarbonize space heating. 🔗 https://lnkd.in/g5UicG_Z 4. Clean Hydrogen Tax Credit Impact Our work on the 45V clean hydrogen tax credits, in partnership with experts from Engineering and Public Policy (EPP) Department at Carnegie Mellon University and North Carolina State University, has gained attention from policymakers and media. It was recently cited in a letter from U.S. Senators to Secretary Yellen. Our insights have also been featured by Heatmap News and The Breakthrough Institute. 🔗 https://lnkd.in/gW8FM4Qx 🔗 https://lnkd.in/gHMMYfti 🔗 https://lnkd.in/gmctUtf4 Beyond that, we continue to work on exciting projects with governments, utilities, nonprofits and independent power producers, helping them make informed choices as they move toward decarbonization.
