Breaking: New MethaneAIR findings show U.S. oil & gas fields emit four times more methane than EPA estimates. The data reveals 7.5 million metric tons of methane emitted per year, compared to the reported 1.6 million. These findings underscore the need for accurate, measurement-based data to effectively manage and mitigate methane emissions. Read more: https://lnkd.in/gssqJcpA

Milwaukee has 65,000 lead lines. Since a city ordinance requiring removal in 2017, Milwaukee Water Works is accelerating the pace to replace 3,500 lines per year. The city is also targeting neighborhoods most in need, tapping into federal funds so that homeowners pay nothing, and supporting the local workforce. Full episode to come! Our virtual webinar discussing our first Jurisdictional REDD+ Pricing Guide for Tropical Forest Nations is taking place tomorrow! This new report highlights exciting growth and challenges ahead in carbon markets, particularly in the emerging #JREDD+ market and how Forest Nations can benefit from it. We’ll be joined by its authors Dylan McCall-Landry and David McLaughlin; Guy Turner, Managing Director of Carbon Markets at MSCI Inc. whose data powered the guide, Mark Moroge, Vice President of Natural Climate Solutions at EDF and Holly Pearen, Lead Consultant at EDF’s Ecosystem Program. The panel will discuss the findings from the report, and what they mean for Jurisdictional Credits in the #VCM. Register for the webinar here: https://lnkd.in/eQdMGeMQ

Important read from Kaveh Madani in Forbes today, on the urgency of tackling methane emissions ⬇ "Due to its chemical structure, methane can trap more heat in the atmosphere, making it over 80 times more harmful than CO2 in the first 20 years after its release. This greenhouse gas is responsible for one-third of total warming since the Industrial Revolution. But this is not the whole story. Methane is also a major contributor to the formation of ozone, a detrimental air pollutant that harms humans, ecosystems, and agricultural production. Annually, half a million premature deaths across the world are caused by the ozone resulting from human-caused methane production." International Methane Emissions Observatory - IMEO

This is a feel-good story on all levels. For some of Boston Medical Center’s patients electricity isn’t just a convenience, it’s a matter of life or death. But many of them can’t afford to pay their electric bills. For years doctors have written letters to utility companies advocating for patients who depend on home oxygen machines or take medications that need to be refrigerated. For those patients, and many others, electricity is a medical necessity. But thanks to the Inflation Reduction Act, doctors at Boston Medical Center have a new way to help those patients. The center used funds from the IRA to install a solar array. They sell the electricity it generates to a local utility company. And they use the money to help pay electric bills for patients in need. The Inflation Reduction Act has made so many stories like this possible. So as its second anniversary approaches let’s take a moment to acknowledge that the historic climate law isn’t just about climate. It’s about building stronger, healthier more prosperous communities. And we can all feel good about that. https://bit.ly/3Wsdh6G

The climate crisis demands audacity. We must have the nerve to take big, bold actions...like launching a satellite into space to track global methane emissions. Methane has more than 80 times the warming power of carbon dioxide in the short term. And if we can reduce emissions quickly, it will bring down global temperatures in this decade. As the MethaneSAT Mission Impact Lead, Millie Chu Baird is a major force behind this big, bold mission to cut methane. Listening to her Ted Talk left me inspired and full of hope. And I’m betting it’ll do the same for you. https://lnkd.in/enpnFv9R
