Canada is on a transformative journey to reach net-zero greenhouse-gas emissions by 2050. Wind and solar energy, supported by energy storage, will power much of this journey. That’s because wind and solar are the lowest-cost sources of new decarbonized electricity. We will need to increase our wind and solar capacity 10x by 2050, so we need to act now, and we need to act together.

NEWS RELEASE: To celebrate the spring equinox, CanREA’s new Go Solar Guide 2025 encourages Canadians to go solar—just in time to welcome the sun! Did you know that more and more consumers are choosing to generate their own solar energy on-site? In the past five years, Canadians installed more than 600 MW of solar at their residences and small businesses. There are now nearly 96,000 on-site solar energy installations across Canada, providing more than 1 GW of direct solar power, and this number continues to grow. CanREA is proud to release the new edition of our annual consumer guide, containing everything homeowners and small business owners need to know when planning their solar installation projects. Canadian Renewable Energy Association (CanREA) reposted this
This past week I attended my first Independent Power Producers Society of Alberta IPPSA conference where the theme was "If they build it, who will come?" It was two days of immersive discussions on everything power related in Alberta with a dash of humor thrown in by keynote speakers including former Prime Ministers Stephen Harper and Jean Chretien (definitely the highlight!). I heard our brilliant and witty CEO Vittoria Bellissimo lead a moderated discussion on regional perspectives amongst other interesting panel discussions. I enjoyed networking with many folk across Alberta's power sector. And I enjoyed the wonder and beauty of the mountain landscape surrounding the Fairmont Banff Springs. All in all, an excellent way to spend a couple of cold winter days in Alberta! Check out Vittoria's review which provides some specific perspectives from her panel: https://lnkd.in/gZgC9Bx7

CanREA in the News: Vittoria Bellissimo, CanREA's President and CEO, recently spoke with pv magazine Global to discuss wins in the Canadian solar industry and what's ahead. "If you look back five years, over 80% of the installed capacity was in one province, but now we’re starting to see procurements across the country,” Bellissimo said. “So I really do think Canada is alive to the fact that we need more energy long term and we're doing something about it, which is good news.” "It is an especially innovative time for the power sector," she added.
