🇨🇦 "If there’s ever been a time to bolster Canada’s national security through an energy project that makes us more prosperous, healthier and more resilient to an increasingly turbulent world, while reducing emissions and doing our part to address the climate crisis, this is it—and the project is clean power," writes Pembina Institute executive director Chris Severson-Baker. #cdnpoli

About us
Clean Energy Canada is an initiative of the Centre for Dialogue at Simon Fraser University, in Vancouver, British Columbia. We work to accelerate our nation’s transition to clean and renewable energy systems. We do so by telling the story of the global shift to clean and low-carbon energy sources and conducting original research, hosting dialogues, and inspiring and informing policy leadership. We envision a future in which our nation has one of the most advanced energy systems in the world, having significantly reduced its carbon emissions by the middle of this century. In our vision, Canada has become a leader in clean and renewable energy production, consumption, and innovation—benefiting citizens socially, environmentally and economically.

While U.S. President Donald Trump pulls back from policies that are already supporting clean, domestic industries in his country, let’s help our own steel and aluminum companies by buying clean right here at home," writes Clean Energy Canada's Oliver Sheldrick. It's time to rethink how we understand the politics of climate action, says me in a new BIV News op-ed. Climate change doesn't need to be perpetually top-of-mind to remain deeply important to people. How could it be? This isn't COVID. This is a many-decades-long crisis, with consequences stretching further still. Thus, according to survey of B.C.'s last election, all these things are true: ➡️ Climate change was not a central issue in the last election. ➡️ Downplaying climate change significantly repelled most B.C. voters. ➡️ Climate policies remain broadly popular and pay political dividends. There's no contradiction here. Rather, climate change is a chronic issue. Some years it will also be an acute one. When understood this way, two takeaways emerge: climate action will always be important to people, even when it feels less salient, and the way in which we navigate this climate era will often be through other political issues and even the very purchases and decisions we make at a household level. What concerns me more these days than climate-as-a-voting-issue is this: Roughly three-quarters of those under the age of 44 in Metro Vancouver — who tend to be the most motivated to lower their carbon footprint — agree that young people face systemic barriers around accessing and adopting clean technologies “much in the same way it is often said that younger generations face systemic barriers in the housing market.” They're not wrong. And we need to make it right. More thoughts here: https://lnkd.in/gX8Ubs4q H/T Dan Woynillowicz, Karen Tam Wu, Matto Mildenberger

🇨🇦🇺🇸🤝 "There is no better time to enable Canadians to buy Canadian. We must enhance interprovincial trade and infrastructure by marketing made-in-Canada goods within Canada, ensuring our internal market is seamless and open, and prioritizing industries with growth opportunities in the energy transition," says Rachel Doran. 🇨🇦🔌👨🔧 "With the threat of U.S. tariffs still looming, it’s now time for a strategic focus on Ontario’s economic future, rethinking the province’s place in a global economy that is moving in a very different direction than the Trump administration," writes Clean Energy Canada's Ollie Sheldrick-Moyle. #onpoli
