At Samuel Automation, we’re fueled by innovation. Our investments in new technologies allow us to keep leading the market in quality, efficiency and safety for our customers and our team. We’re thrilled to share that we’ve now completed our latest advancement with the implementation of four new coil unloading robots at Samuel Packaging Systems Group’s Heath, OH facility. These robots help increase safety, ergonomics and speed by reducing strain risk during unloading for our team members and improving overall process efficiency. This project is a great example of the safe and effective solutions that Samuel Automation can provide, and the Heath team is already looking to collaborate on more opportunities. “We have plans to continue to integrate automated systems with robotics, like those we have received from Samuel Automation, into our operations to improve the safety, efficiency and reliability of all operations,” shares Nathan Scharpenberg, Continuous Improvement Engineer at Heath. “We strive to be a world-class supplier by always meeting our customers’ needs in the safest manner and driving continuous improvement in our processes, and this project is just one of the many we are working to achieve that goal.” Interested in learning more about how Samuel Automation can help your business? Helping our people grow and develop is an important part of #LifeatSamuel. Read more from our President & CEO, Colin Osborne, in the post below.
It was my pleasure to be asked to be the guest speaker for ArcelorMittal’s #Aspire program, run by #ArcelorMittalUniversity (Luxembourg). Like Samuel, Son & Co., developing leaders from within is a priority for ArcelorMittal, and their Aspire program brings senior leaders from all over the world to discuss important topics, including leadership development. It was a great opportunity to share experiences with leaders from South America, Africa and Europe. While I touched on a number of points, including lessons learned in my own leadership journey, the number one thing we focused on was the importance of developing leaders and building strong teams. Early in my career, I used to believe it was my responsibility to find the solution to any problem that came my way, but now, I know the best thing I can do is put the right people in the right roles, and that developing them internally is by far the most effective path. That’s why, at #Samuel, we continue to invest heavily in leadership development with multiple cohorts progressing through our variety of internal and external programs every year. Our goal is to build the strongest possible bench so that we do not just succeed this year and next year, but are also sustainable well into the future; something that is a priority for a company that is almost 170 years old. Thank you to Ron Bedard (CEO of ArcelorMittal Dofasco) and Stacey VanderHeiden Gűney (Global Head of ArcelorMittal University) for affording me such a great opportunity. And good luck to all the outstanding leaders I met at the Aspire program on your continued leadership journey! #StrongTeams #LeadershipDevelopment #GrowthandDevelopment #CareerGrowth

We always love when we find new ways to embrace technology and provide even higher quality products for our customers, and a great example of that is currently happening at our #FortMill facility. The Samuel Packaging Systems Group team in South Carolina has partnered with our Samuel Automation team to automate the pack-out process for plastic strapping coils. Two new robots will be integrated into our current, more manual approach, providing support for everything from skid packaging and interleafing to wrapping and product labeling. “Samuel has invested in a premier automation group, that brings real value to the table,” shares Steven Forrister, Director – Engineering, Quality and Continuous Improvement, who has been working with #SamuelAutomation on different projects for the last two years. “The consistency this new system provides will ensure continued packaging quality and assist in meeting our delivery timetables, which is great for customers, but it also offers great benefits to our team members. It will help keep them safe, by reducing or eliminating strains and sprains, and it will increase engagement as we’re removing some of the more manual elements from their daily jobs.” Development of these robots is currently underway, with plans to be fully operational in Q1 2025. We adopt a holistic approach to #learning and #development, helping our team members sharpen both their professional and soft skills. Nicholas Foster, an Inside Sales Representative from our Toledo, Ohio facility, for example, was looking to improve time management and was able to turn to our online learning library for help. The most valuable tip he took away from his course was that taking short breaks can improve productivity. He put this lesson into practice during a recent incident when he was feeling frustrated and stressed while trying to solve a recurring customer issue. "I decided to take a quick break to help myself relax," Nicholas shares. "Stepping back and taking a pause allowed me to see the bigger picture, and helped ideas come to mind much easier. I’m grateful for the course that taught me this and to Samuel for giving me access to it." This is only one of the many free online courses we offer our team members to help them reach their fullest professional potential.
