Every panel Savick builds (big or small) has a shop drawing. This includes a layout and construction details, along with a millimetre precise cut-list. These shop drawings are derived from a virtual twin of the building itself; which is a 3D Revit model that captures the projects architecture, structural engineering, and considerations for other trades. Eliminating the guess work allows our carpenters to work efficiently and accurately. While Savick’s shop is driven by manual physical processes, leveraging the power of BIM and virtual automation is changing the game.

Straw has massive untapped potential. I think this rapidly renewable material will be key in making sustainable and healthy buildings accessible to everyone. Despite its benefits, however, very few buildings are insulated with straw. This is because straw needs a vehicle to get it from the farmers field into a high performance building. Our vehicle of choice is light wood frame prefab: which is why Savick also offers conventional prefab services. Not only has this taught us how to prefabricate hundreds of panels in a manner of days, it has exposed us to solve for unique structural challenges, logistic constraints, and provide good customer service.
