This year's International Women's Day theme, “For ALL Women and Girls: Rights. Equality. Empowerment,” highlights the importance of creating opportunities for women to thrive, lead, and build the futures they deserve. Women and girls in Uganda face various challenges, including unequal access to education and cultural inequalities that limit their potential. One effective way to break these challenges is by providing these women with training in easy-to-start local income skills. Our work is transforming the lives of marginalized youth and communities by equipping them with practical local income skills such as poultry farming and producing reusable sanitary pads. These skills are easy to learn, require minimal investment, and can be used to start their microbusinesses, develop self-reliance and sustainable livelihoods. For over 16 years, Sawa World has scaled up initiatives to identify thriving local entrepreneurs, particularly women, to share their skills in more communities across Uganda. These entrepreneurs are creating a ripple effect of impact where women are not just participants but leaders actively contributing to the transformation of their communities.
