Gender-based violence (GBV) in humanitarian settings is a life-threatening issue. In this context, existing support structures and prevention mechanisms are often compromised, while the risk of abuse and violence of all kinds increases, in particular for women and girls. Despite initiatives over the past ten years to implement GBV programmes in emergencies, the practical difficulties are complex and context specific. In efforts to drive improvements to humanitarian GBV programming, our Humanitarian Innovation Manager, Ian Brightwell, is participating at the Sexual Violence Research Initiative (SVRI) Forum in Cape Town, South Africa, the largest conference dedicated to research on prevention of and response to violence against women in all their diversity and violence against children. A space for researchers, practitioners, policymakers, donors, and survivors to share and learn about new research, developments and innovations.    🟣 Interested in #GBV? The leading humanitarian aid and disaster relief event is centred around ‘Revitalising Humanitarian Assistance’ as the number of complex and hard-to-reach conflict areas continues to rise. At AidEx, international development actors will explore innovative approaches for more effective aid delivery, and we will be part of it. Our Director of Impact and Engagement, Colette Fearon, will be on the panel for a discussion of how the humanitarian sector can scale, localise and drive innovation in conflict and protracted crises. Catch the conversation on the AidEx Main Stage on 23 October at 1:15pm (CEST). Or register here to attend: https://lnkd.in/ei84FRpH #AidEx #HumanitarianAssistance #HumanitarianInnovation
