Updates

  • At Sienna, we're all about improving interactions with our residents and their families. Sometimes we're hampered by legacy systems that are still paper based and require significant time commitments by our team members. As a result of an employee recommendation, made through our SPARK innovation generation program that turns our best ideas into action, Sienna decided to introduce an entirely online system from Evoke Health Inc. By implementing electronic invoicing in long-term care through the Engage+ Family Communication Portal, Sienna team members will be able to save time by streamlining invoicing and communication, ultimately making it easier to connect with families, and to focus on providing exceptional care and more meaningful relationships with residents.

  • Good Grief! Seniors Bereavement Support Groups create a supportive environment where seniors begin addressing their profound loss, embarking on a journey of self-discovery. Group discussions and shared experiences yield positive changes in emotional well-being, reducing anxiety, and enhancing self-esteem. With the financial support of The Sienna for Seniors Foundation, Good Grief! offered these unique group and drop-in sessions for older adults last year who were affected by loss and grief. The Sienna For Seniors Foundation welcomes those who wish to join our journey of creating daily moments of joy and happiness for seniors. Your generous support will help empower us to enrich even more lives of seniors across Canada. • It’s time to celebrate the strength, resilience, and achievements of women everywhere. At Sienna, we gathered both in-person and virtually for a special #IWD2025 panel discussion with our incredible female executive leaders (Olga Giovanniello M.Ed, C.Dir., Jennifer Anderson, Nancy A. Webb and Olga Giovanniello M.Ed, C.Dir.) to #AccelerateAction for gender equality.

“Don’t be afraid of the fear. It will always be there in the background, but you can’t let it hold you back.” That was a powerful takeaway from Sienna Senior Living’s International Women’s Day gathering — a reminder that most women, at some point, have faced hesitation before taking on a challenging project or role. But the leaders in our conversation shared something even more powerful: fear can be fuel. When we learn to push past it, incredible things can happen. And what else helps? A workplace that champions every team member’s growth and values diverse perspectives. At Sienna Senior Living, women make up the majority of our workforce, and their presence is reflected in every area of the company — from the frontlines to the C-Suite to our Board of Directors. They are leaders, decision makers and changemakers. With nearly 70% of our leadership roles held by women, we view our gender diversity as a source of strength. Coming out of this great conversation with Sienna’s women executive team members Nancy A. Webb, Teresa Fritsch, MBA, MA, ICD.D and Jennifer Anderson, I was reminded that we have the power to lift each other up as we rise. That’s how we create lasting change. I am grateful that we took time to recognize and celebrate #IWD2025 but that we are also committed to keep talking about why inclusion matters, why diverse leadership makes us better, and why every woman should see that anything is possible. #accelerateaction

  • At Sienna, we’re committed to creating communities where everyone feels safe, welcome, and included. That’s why we’ve partnered with Rainbow Health Ontario (RHO) to equip our long-term care leaders with the knowledge and tools to provide inclusive, affirming care for 2SLGBTQI seniors. For many 2SLGBTQI seniors, accessing care has meant facing discrimination and fear. We are changing that. By June 2025, all LTC leaders will complete two RHO courses—2SLGBTQI Foundations and 2SLGBTQI Older Adults & Inclusive Care—as part of our Equity, Diversity, Inclusion & Anti-Racism Plan. The response from our leaders has been incredible, with many sharing how proud they are to be part of this commitment. Together, we are building communities where everyone belongs. #inclusion #longtermcare #seniorliving #lifeatsienna

  • The Senior Living CaRES Fund was established in recognition of the extraordinary efforts of senior living sector employees whose passion, commitment and resilience while caring for the most vulnerable is nothing short of heroic. We are pleased to announce that Sienna Senior Living will contribute $25,000 to the CaRES Fund in 2025, reinforcing our commitment to supporting team members in the senior living sector. Established in May 2020 by Sienna, Chartwell Retirement Residences, Revera Inc., and Extendicare, the CaRES Fund has provided over $3 million in financial assistance and education bursaries to frontline employees across Canada. This initiative has played a vital role in helping team members navigate financial challenges and pursue professional development opportunities. This continued investment underscores our dedication to empowering those who provide exceptional care and service to residents daily.

  • Wherever You Are, #SoAreWe – captures the many ways social workers support individuals in all aspects of life. At Sienna, we see firsthand the impact social workers have on residents, families, and the broader community. For many, social work isn’t just a career—it’s a calling. In long-term care, social workers become an integral part of the care team, bridging all aspects of care to enhance residents’ well-being and outcomes. They have the privilege of truly getting to know residents, working alongside them to overcome challenges that may be preventing them from living life to the fullest. Their dedication is instrumental in ensuring that every resident feels valued, supported, and empowered. This March, let’s celebrate the many ways #socialworkers open doors to well-being, and purpose. 💙

  • The communal activity of baking together brings camaraderie, laughter, a feeling of goodwill, and of course, something delicious to eat. With support from the Sienna for Seniors Foundation, Temple Emanu-El's Baking with Love program has allowed seniors to bake together and share the results of their efforts with a neighbourhood shelter for teens and other communal organizations that support people in need. The Foundation is looking to expand its footprint and offer even more financial support to charities like Temple Emanu-El that align with our mission and objectives. We are now seeking applications for 2025 from Canadian registered charities for one-time grants of up to $50,000 to support initiatives that create moments of happiness for seniors.
