Solis Minerals has expanded its Peruvian copper #exploration portfolio with its new Canyon Project, located NW in the Coastal Intrusive Belt in Peru. The application area is ~22km by 12km and targets #copper porphyry mineralisation, principally oxides, situated on a NW-SE prospective trend with known porphyry occurrences just outside the application area, as well as reported exploration activities within the area itself. The company is rapidly developing its portfolio of #copper assets, particularly along Peru’s southern coastal intrusive belt, in a race to meet rapidly growing copper demand. The closure of the Cobre Panama mine removed 1.5% of global copper production from the market, driving prices to a record high above A$11,000 per tonne in May. Analysts estimate 427 million tonnes of copper will be needed per year by 2050, as decarbonisation efforts ramp-up compared to just 22 million tonnes produced in 2023. The survey shows magnetic anomalies south of an intrusive batholith contact with corresponding alteration detected from WorldView 3 remote sensing work. The Latin America-focused copper-gold explorer says the high magnetic anomaly south of the batholith is flanked by alteration to the south which represents a high priority target for immediate follow-up mapping and geochemistry.
