Project Update!👨🏭 We have now installed the Axial Cyclone for Baghouse #2 for the Electric Arc Furnace (EAF) fume treatment plant project at Algoma Steel Inc. What is an Axial Cyclone and what does it do? The cyclone is located on the secondary fumes suction line before the Bag Filter. Its function is to separate the coarser dust, from the main-stream, thus avoiding unnecessary filter loading, and the ignited coal particles from causing damage to the filter bags.   The cyclone is made up of a cylindrical external shell equipped with an internal static rotor designed to give the fumes a rotational axial motion. Due to the centrifugal force, the heavier and sparks particles are brought in contact with the outer shell and spent and stopped by friction. Fume discharging is through a pyramidal hopper placed along the cyclone axis. The recovered particle matter is collected in the hopper located underneath the cyclone and then conveyed by means of a pneumatic transport system to the storage silos. Great job to all parties involved including Elliott Engineering who designed the lift plan for this work.

MRI delivered to the new Mills Memorial Hospital. Did you know that MRI machines must be installed in a copper-lined cabin? It looks pretty cool - check it out in the photos that follow! Our PCL Construction Mills Memorial Hospital Redevelopment project team in Terrace, BC, recently received and installed the hospital’s MRI machine. This is one of the most significant pieces of equipment we've installed in the hospital, and it required considerable preparation from our incredible team. Planning for the installation of an MRI machine is a meticulous process. Every detail is crucial - like ensuring the structural integrity of the space, that there is a suitable path for installation after construction is complete and installing the necessary shielding to protect against magnetic interference. It's the dedicated planning of our team of design builders in collaboration with specialist vendors that have made this achievement possible. This Siemens MAGNETOM Sola 1.5T MRI machine will not only enhance Northern Health's hospital's capabilities but also bring advanced diagnostic services closer to the Northwest B.C. community, significantly impacting and improving the lives of patients. PCL is proud to be part of such an impactful project, building a caring legacy for the region. Thank you, to Northern Health - BC, Siemens Healthineers, Siaron Medical Ltd., Sterling Crane, and ETS-Lindgren for making this installation look easy and ensuring we delivered on getting this critical medical device ready ahead of our substantial completion, which we expect to achieve next month!
