  • This September 30th, the St. Lawrence Parks Commission, as an agency of the Government of Ontario, recognizes National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, also known as Orange Shirt Day. This important day commemorates the history and legacy of Residential Schools in Canada and underscores the need for reflection, education, and ongoing commitment to growth. In honour of this day and guided by the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Call to Action 57, we encourage every member of our workforce to embark on a journey of learning about the history and legacy of Indigenous Peoples - focusing on residential schools, treaties, and Indigenous rights. Our Anti-Racism Action Plan supports this by equipping our team with the knowledge and skills to recognize and challenge racism, fostering a deeper understanding of our diverse community. Let this day serve as a reminder of our collective responsibility to learn, reflect, and act towards a more inclusive and respectful future. Through continued education and engagement, we strive to honour the truths of Indigenous Peoples and advance reconciliation efforts. We stand united in our commitment to this vital work.

  • NEWS - Today, Upper Canada Village proudly unveiled the life-size bronze statue of Canada’s National Horse, the Canadian, in a heartfelt ceremony attended by community members and generous donors. The statue celebrates the strength, endurance, and legacy of this incredible breed, often called "The Little Iron Horse.” In just under a year, a small but dedicated group of horse-loving volunteers, in partnership with the St. Lawrence Parks Commission, raised over $200,000 from private sector supporters to bring this vision to life. We are beyond grateful for the support from everyone who contributed to this beautiful tribute to a symbol of Canadian strength and resilience. Special thanks to the volunteer committee - Don Cook, Darlene Burns, Susan Le Clair, and Ron de Vries for their dedication and hard work. The Canadian horse, officially recognized as our country’s national horse in 2002, played a vital role in the development of Canada, and now stands proudly at Upper Canada Village for all to admire. 🐴 Thank you to all who helped make this moment possible!
