*POLL RESULTS* We asked: "Do you have a "RESUME GAP" (aka a break in your career) and finding it be a VERY REAL OBSTACLE in your present day job hunt?" And here's folks answered: 51% 👉 "Yes" ✅ 40% 👉 "No" ❌ 9% 👉"Sometimes" 👍/👎 Employers, Hiring Managers, and Recruiters: are we REALLY only considering 40% of the population? "Say it ain't so, Joe...say it ain't so." Not to be maudlin, we appreciate that organizations want the top 1% of talent. The absolute best of the best, of the BEST. But they simply can't ALL be unicorns. That defies the definition. That leaves us with 99% of the talented professionals out there and a great many ARE talented. We'd hazard to say, the majority. And a significant number of them will have been out of work, at SOME point in their careers, for even a short period of time. LIFE happens. Layoffs, downsizing, outsourcing, organizational shake-ups, recessions, technological unemployment, health problems, tragedies, environmental disasters...HAPPEN. ***NEW POLL ALERT*** Despite all the privileges, benefits, high standards of living, and first world problems enjoyed by Canadians and Americans, it's no secret that they take (are bestowed?) less vacation/PTO days than many of their global counterparts. ('Live to work, not work to live'...sort of thing?) Data pegs the number around 11 PTO days per year. And studies show that folks typically take 3 days to TRULY unwind on their vacations. That doesn't leave a lot of quality time away to unplug and refresh your batteries before it's back to the grindstone.
