The Student Volunteer Bureau (SVB) exists as a platform to promote and encourage volunteerism among MUN students.
About us
The Student Volunteer Bureau (SVB) is a platform that promotes, encourages and educates students at Memorial University of Newfoundland (MUN) about volunteerism. We advise students (both graduate and undergraduate) about ways they can get involved and start volunteering on campus. On the flip side, we offer advice to clubs, societies, and other organizations (who are seeking volunteers) in their recruitment, retention, and management. We can also provide guidance in event planning that incorporates volunteers in any capacity. We are a hub for people who are looking for places to volunteer as well as organizations that are seeking out volunteers. We have postings on our website, share events on our social media and we send out a weekly listserv (typically) every Wednesday at noon. We facilitate the Volunteer Incentive Program (VIP) which is a multi-level program open to all Memorial students who want to take responsibility for their own growth and development as thriving individuals. Lastly, our three signature events throughout the year are the Get Involved and Volunteer Expo (GIVE), The VIP Ceremony, and Volunteer Day (done in cooperation with the city of St. John's). Our office is open 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM, while classes are in session, and students are always welcome to drop by!

The Get Involved and Volunteer Expo was a smashing success! We had over 300 students come in and network with the many different volunteer organizations that came from all over the province to spread awareness for their causes and recruit volunteers! Highlights of the event included the nitrogen ice cream courtesy of Let's Talk Science | Parlons sciences and the absolutely adorable rabbit that visited us alongside HOPPY HOMES RESCUE! We would also like to thank all the organizations that took time out of their busy schedules to further the noble cause of volunteering: Neighbours United, Canada Games Council | Conseil des Jeux du Canada, ElderDog Canada, MUN Hope, The Gathering Place, L'Arche Avalon, Correctional Service Canada │ Service correctionnel Canada, Indian Youth Association, MUN Stem Cell Club, St. John's Tool Library, Easter Seals NL Career Services, The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Canada, YMCA of Newfoundland and Labrador, Teachers on Wheels, Inc., MUN Sexual Harassment Office, CNIB, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Eastern Newfoundland, BRIDGES TO HOPE, Connections For Seniors, NL Health Services, Mount Pearl Citizen's Crime Prevention, Special Olympics, Islamic Relief Canada, Canadian Red Cross, NavCare, MUN Student Wellness and Counselling Centre, MUN United Nations Society, and MUN Debate Society! Special thank you to our wonderful Volunteers that made the event what it was, including but not limited to Emmanuel Okoro-Igwe, Shoaib Ansari, Falak Ajani, Ayesha Quadri, Ayesha Iqbal, Jannath Sameer, Jacqueline Dimka, Afrah Baig, Yuserah Shahzeb, Oyeinkenumuworimi Azebi, Kazi Ahsanul Hoque, Dania Rizvi, Haneen Al Haj, Yaneesh Prakash, Ayush Mathur, Annie Liang, Shehan Gunasena, Malak, Hiba Khalil, Zahra Salami, Benedicta Uvwie, Neelparnaa and Fahmida Faiza Khan. Is your volunteer organization/group/club interested in being a part of G.I.V.E (Get Involved and Volunteer Expo) on September 24th? Register here: https://lnkd.in/ebh6ZgJG Deadline to apply: July 20th! The Volunteer Expo is one of the Student Volunteer Bureau's main events held annually during the fall semester. The Volunteer Expo strives to increase campus awareness of volunteer opportunities available in our community and to provide information about exciting career possibilities in the not-for-profit sector. This Expo will provide agencies with the chance to display information about the volunteer placements offered within their organization and interact directly with interested students. Agencies in the past have found that participating in this fair has generated interest in their agencies, raised their profile as a volunteer organization, and provided them with an opportunity to network with other volunteer agencies.
