Last Friday, Jasper residents were able to safely re-enter their community, following devastating wildfires that destroyed homes and businesses, including one of two Petro-Canada’s. The Petro-Canada at 300 Connaught Drive has now reopened its doors to the Jasper community as it rebuilds. “We will be there to support the community’s ongoing relief and recovery efforts,” says Shannon Wing, GM of Retail Sales & Operations, Petro-Canada. “I couldn’t be prouder of our team’s efforts to get this location back up and running quickly so that we can uphold our commitment to keep Canadians moving toward what matters most to them. Thank you to our Associate, Saby, and his staff.” Together, Petro-Canada (a Suncor business) and the Suncor Energy Foundation donated a total of $85,000 to the immediate rebuilding and recovery efforts through the Canadian Red Cross Alberta Wildfires Appeal, the Edmonton Community Foundation's Northern Alberta Resiliency Fund and the Banff Canmore Foundation's Rocky Mountain Community Relief Fund.

Employees at our Commerce City refinery have been helping local students prepare for the upcoming school year. The site recently hosted a backpack and school supplies drive, filling 200 backpacks with pencils, pens, paper and more to be delivered to Kenzi's Causes, a non-profit organization that supports underprivileged children and their families throughout Colorado. Families were then able to attend an event at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science to pick up the packs stuffed with supplies appropriate for each grade. Suncor also provided a $35,000 grant to support Kenzi’s Causes Packz-4-Kids initiative.

There's integration and then there is Suncor Integration. Increased integration between our assets has resulted in improved performance and a number of recent records of production and throughput. Paraffinic Froth Treatment (PFT) has been a big part of that success. PFT is the process of treating bitumen at Fort Hills, in which the product is partially decarbonized. That results in a higher quality of bitumen that requires less diluent to be moved via pipeline and that can produce more valuable products when used as bitumen supply in the upgrading process. So when we send PFT to our Base Plant Upgrader 2, we get a 5-7% higher yield which equates to us producing 4,000-5,000 barrels per day extra of Synthetic Crude Oil (SCO) without additional operating costs. The addition of PFT to the Base Plant upgrader also fills any gaps in available feedstock and the steadier rates and operations help to improve the overall reliability of Suncor assets. Fifty years went by in a flash for Arthur Tremblay and Linda Ellis, both long-time Suncor employees who started working in 1974. Arthur, who has been a mechanic at our Base Plant maintenance shop for five decades will put away his tools for the last time in August. “I won’t miss getting up at 5 in the morning,” jokes Arthur. “I’ll probably do more golfing as I’ll have time to do that." However, Linda, who works at our Ottawa terminal, says she has no plans to retire just yet. “They’re going to have to dust me off when I retire,” Linda laughs. “I still feel like I have energy and much to contribute. And I just like what I do; I like the people. I’ve been through a lot of change over the years, and I had a great career. I don’t know where 50 years went.” Congratulations to Arthur and Linda on their amazing career milestones! Read their full stories here: https://lnkd.in/gVX3hxBs
