The Centre for Innovation in Campus Mental Health

Yesterday, our team had the privilege of traveling to Sudbury to host our Northern Regional Forum at Laurentian University/Université Laurentienne. Laurentian graciously welcomed us into the Round Room at their Indigenous Sharing and Learning Centre—a unique, collaborative space that set the stage for meaningful discussions on supporting student mental health.   During our visit, we also had the chance to tour Laurentian’s Free Store for Students. This inspiring, three-year-long initiative provides essential items, from kitchen appliances to clothing for all ages, at no cost to students in need. The store is a true testament to community spirit, with donations generously contributed by students, staff, and community members.   We’re grateful to everyone who joined us and helped make this day impactful. As midterms approach, it’s crucial to recognize the impact of stress and anxiety on our students’ mental health. Faculty and campus counselors play a vital role in supporting students through these challenges.   Here are a few ways to help students manage test anxiety: ➡️ Encourage a growth mindset—remind students that their grades do not define their worth. ➡️ Promote healthy pre-test routines—sleep, exercise, and mindfulness can reduce stress and improve focus. ➡️ Be available—offering an open line of communication can alleviate the pressure students feel during this period. ➡️Consider sharing resources like More Feet on the Ground, which provides guidance on recognizing and supporting students in distress.   Together, we can create an environment where students feel supported, not just academically, but emotionally.   Learn more here: https://lnkd.in/gKrYB_VW
