We are thrilled to announce that this year’s 18th Annual Walk The Walk for The Compass Food Bank & Outreach Centre raised an incredible $176,000 net — surpassing our goal by an astounding $36,000! This achievement would not have been possible without the unwavering support of our community, our wonderful sponsors, and the many generous donors who contributed to this event. We are deeply grateful to each and every one of you for walking with us, both in spirit and in action. Your contributions will go a long way in helping The Compass Food Bank provide food, hygiene items, hot meals and other programs and services to those experiencing food insecurity and homelessness in our community. The funds raised will help sustain us until mid-November, helping to ensure that we can continue supporting the 2,200 individuals, including more than 725 children, who rely on us every week. Walk The Walk is more than just a fundraiser—it’s a lifeline for families and individuals struggling to make ends meet. It brings us together in solidarity, demonstrating that, as a community, we care deeply about those who are most vulnerable. Thank you to our amazing sponsors, volunteers, and participants. Together, we’re making a real difference in the lives of those who need it most. Every step matters, and every dollar counts! Oct 16, 2024 is World Food Day! This year's theme is "The right to foods for a better life and a better future." World Food Day was established to increase awareness of global hunger and poverty and to inspire solutions for world change. Today, it is celebrated by many communities worldwide. At The Compass Food Bank, we live by the motto "Help for Today, Hope for Tomorrow." Everyone deserves the right to food—food that helps you strive and thrive for tomorrow! Recent Stats: Ontario food banks were visited 7,689,580 times between April 1, 2023, and March 31, 2024, an increase of 31% over 2022-23 and 134% over 2019-20. “Food banks cannot keep up with the unprecedented need they're seeing,” Stewart said. - Sept 10, 2024, Global News. Tonight, we celebrated Thanksgiving with a heartwarming dinner for our clients, thanks to Mentor College / TEAM School. They prepared and served meals to 240 of our clients experiencing food insecurity. 🥰 With volunteers, staff, and board members on hand to support the students, it was an evening filled with love, compassion, and heartfelt giving. ❤️ This coincided with World Mental Health Day, making it even more special as we provided our clients with a warm meal and a sense of community connection. This marks Mentor College’s 10th year of offering support with Thanksgiving dinners, and we are incredibly grateful! If your school or organization would like to give back to the community and volunteer their time, we are accepting team volunteers for events starting in 2025. Please visit our https://lnkd.in/gFnsr-t3 to learn more. From all of us at The Compass Food Bank & Outreach Centre, Happy Thanksgiving and a big thank you to Mentor College. ❤️ #TheCompass #thanksgivingdinner #foodinsecurity #communitysupport #lornepark #mississaugachurch #lakeviewbusiness #clarkson #mineola #portcredit #homeless #mississauga #southmississauga #foodbank #portcreditbia #clarksonbia

Meet Michael R. - the winner of our Walk The Walk Laptop Draw. Tile Solutions sponsored our Welcome Kits for the 4th year in a row. This year, we did something very different. Rather than our 18th Annual Walk The Walk for The Compass Food Bank & Outreach Centre participants disposing of their welcome kit envelopes, we presented the kits in environmentally-friendly paper bags. All participants were invited to return their bag full of food donations, with their name on it, and each person's name was then entered into a random draw to win a laptop. Through our partner CDW Canada, Lenovo donated a brand-new laptop for our winner, Michael, to use and enjoy. We are very thankful to both businesses for their generosity. This new Walk initiative generated 680 lbs. of food for our Compass clients. Thank you to the more than 50 people who returned their Welcome Kits with food donations in it. If you don't recognize Michael from the day of the event, it's because he was sporting a Spiderman costume which delighted the children who attended The Walk. His balloon-making was very popular. Michael did The Walk in his costume and raised 100% of his set fundraising goal. Congratulations Michael on all accounts. #fundraisingevents #foodbanks #communityengagement

We know that many people are struggling with the cost of living, especially when it comes to food. As a result, fresh produce is often avoided in favor of non-perishables, which unfortunately leads to more health problems. Scurvy, a disease caused by vitamin C deficiency, is sadly making a comeback (as reported by CTV News). Doctors warn that vitamin C is essential for our health, but since our bodies don’t naturally produce it, we need to get it from our diet. You can help by donating items from our much-needed list! Tomatoes (even canned) and fruit juices (low in sugar and high in vitamins) can make a big difference. #foodinsecurity #fooddrive #foodbank #homeless #homelessness #mississauga #thankyou #volunteer #TheCompass #lornepark #clarkson #portcredit #mineola #lakeviewmississauga #VitaminC #scurvy
