Although not a statutory holiday in #Canada, today we observe alongside our US Customers, vendors, partners, friends, family and more! A day in history: Memorial Day, formerly Decoration Day, honors fallen U.S. military personnel, originating after the Civil War. In the late 1860s, communities nationwide began springtime tributes, adorning graves with flowers and prayers. General John A. Logan called for a national day of remembrance on May 5, 1868. The first Decoration Day saw General James Garfield's speech at Arlington National Cemetery, with 5,000 decorating 20,000 Civil War graves. After World War I, Memorial Day expanded to honor all American military casualties, including those from World War II, Vietnam, Korea, Iraq, and Afghanistan. Originally observed on May 30th, it shifted to the last Monday in May in 1971 to create a three-day weekend, as per the Uniform Monday Holiday Act. #MemorialDay #RememberTheFallen #USA #NewEraGroup
