You get to talk to people, help problem-solve, and sometimes be a listener when people need it most. I’m happy to be here. I have worked in the mailroom the entire time I have been at TOH. As a mailroom attendant, there’s never a dull moment. I get the chance to meet new people every day because we’re often involved with receiving and retrieving of packages for everyone. Vous êtes amené à parler à des gens, à aider à résoudre des problèmes, et parfois à jouer le rôle d’écoutant quand les personnes en ont le plus besoin. Je suis contente d’être ici. J’ai travaillé dans la salle du courrier pendant tout le temps que j’ai passé à L’hôpital d’Ottawa. En tant que préposée au courrier, je n’ai pas le temps de m’ennuyer. Je rencontre chaque jour de nouvelles personnes parce que nous nous chargeons souvent de la réception et de la récupération des colis pour tout le monde. Il n’y a pas de petit emploi ici; peu importe votre rôle, tout fait une différence pour vos collègues, les patients et la collectivité ». Nous sommes ravis de vous compter parmi nous, Angela. Regular cancer screening saves lives. To help detect and treat breast cancer as early as possible, the province has lowered the minimum age to self-refer for publicly funded screenings — from 50 to 40.✨ Eligible Ontarians between 40 and 49 can now make an appointment for a routine mammogram without a referral from a primary care provider. “On Friday evenings, I have my family over for spaghetti dinner. We go around the table and take turns sharing the best thing that happened to us that week – My granddaughter would tell you that each week, I share that my volunteer shift at The Ottawa Hospital was the greatest thing. When I moved to Ottawa four years ago from southern Ontario, I knew I needed to find a community. As a retired registered nurse, I’ve spent more than 30 years in hospitals, so it’s naturally a place where I’m very comfortable. Being a navigator at the information desk has allowed me to meet new people while giving back. Autour d'une table, nous partageons à tour de rôle la meilleure chose qui nous est arrivée cette semaine-là. Ma petite-fille vous dirait que chaque semaine, je lui raconte que mon quart de travail bénévole à L’Hôpital d’Ottawa a été la meilleure chose qui soit. Lorsque j’ai quitté le sud de l’Ontario pour m’installer à Ottawa il y a quatre ans, je savais que je devais trouver une communauté. En tant qu’infirmière autorisée à la retraite, j’ai passé plus de 30 ans dans les hôpitaux. Naturellement, c’est donc un endroit où je me sens très à l’aise. Le fait d’être intervenante pivot au bureau d’information m’a permis de rencontrer de nouvelles personnes tout en donnant en retour. "When I graduated with my degree in business marketing, I wanted to work in printing sales. It was lucrative money at the time, so I pursued my dreams and landed a job with a large printing company here in Ottawa – but I didn’t like it. The environment wasn’t personal, it was just about numbers and money. So, in 1990, I applied for a casual position as an orderly at The Ottawa Hospital and later secured a full-time position as a patient care aide. I have had the pleasure of working on almost every unit at the Civic Campus and surprisingly my career has come full circle. I am now a clerk in the printing department, but this time my work in printing is about people. That’s the piece I was missing over 30 years ago, and because of that, I’ve never regretted joining The Ottawa Hospital." C’était une activité lucrative à l’époque, alors j’ai poursuivi mes rêves et j’ai décroché un emploi dans une grande imprimerie d’Ottawa, mais je ne l’ai pas aimé. L’environnement n’était pas humain, il était uniquement axé sur les chiffres et l’argent. En 1990, j’ai donc posé ma candidature pour un poste occasionnel d’aide de service aux patients à L’Hôpital d’Ottawa, avant de passer à temps plein par la suite. J’ai eu le plaisir de travailler dans presque toutes les unités du Campus Civic et, étonnamment, la boucle est bouclée. Je suis maintenant commis au Service d’imprimerie, mais cette fois-ci, mon travail dans l’imprimerie est axé sur les gens. C’est la pièce qui me manquait il y a plus de 30 ans, et c’est pourquoi je n’ai jamais regretté d’avoir rejoint L’Hôpital d’Ottawa. »  Paul, nous sommes très heureux que vous ayez choisi de suivre votre cœur pour réaliser vos rêves.
