🧡 Today, we recognize the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, a crucial moment to honor the survivors of residential schools and acknowledge the ongoing journey toward healing and understanding. In line with Calls to Action 87-91, we are committed to supporting Indigenous communities through various initiatives: 87. We call on all levels of government to promote the history of Aboriginal athletes, which is vital for education and recognition. Our National Indigenous Hockey Equipment Drive supports hundreds of Indigenous youth annually, helping to empower them in sports. 88. The federal government must ensure long-term development for Aboriginal athletes and support events like the North American Indigenous Games (NAIG). We stand with these efforts, fostering unity, culture, and health through sport. 89. We advocate for the amendment of the Physical Activity and Sport Act to include Indigenous perspectives. Our programs are designed to be culturally relevant, ensuring all youth feel represented. 90. It is essential for national sports policies to be inclusive of Aboriginal peoples, focusing on community programs and elite athlete development. Through partnerships with friendship and community resource centres, we strive to provide subsidies and support for Indigenous youth across Canada. 91. We urge organizers of international sporting events to respect Indigenous protocols and engage local communities. Our initiatives, like the Nepean Nighthawks "Stick-Together" program and the Kitigan Zibi annual Canoe/Kayak program, prioritize this engagement. Let’s continue to listen, learn, and take meaningful action toward reconciliation. Together, we can create a future that honors and uplifts Indigenous voices. 🧡 #TruthAndReconciliation #EveryChildMatters #IndigenousYouth #TheirOpportunity
