    While Amazon remains the number one eCommerce marketplace globally, Chinese platforms like Alibaba's Taobao and Tmall are rapidly closing the gap. This trend is influenced significantly by the sheer volume of the Asian markets. Everything in Asian markets has its own copy: own online maps, music apps, TV apps, and of course shopping. Competition is won by low costs, speed and trust. What does this have to do with Canada or other western markets? This e-commerce trend has the following critical lessons for all eCommerce players.     Canadian businesses are investing significantly less per worker in innovation and productivity compared to their U.S. counterparts, as highlighted by Bank of Canada governor T.Macklem. The focus seems to be on adding workers rather than enhancing output per worker, leading to a lack of emphasis on people, work satisfaction, and long-term business growth. We see a trend where businesses are increasingly less inclined towards innovation, opting for the status quo over process optimization and improvements. Innovation seems to have become another buzz word, with many choosing to stick to traditional manual working methods despite the potential for advancement. Interestingly, this reluctance towards innovation is not just prevalent in small companies but also noticeable in larger corporations. Calls for improvements drown in beurovracy and meager financial calculations. The concept of innovation has been somewhat diluted to just another expected technological advancement, while the meaningful progress shifted out of focus and lies forgotten. Innovation doesnt need to be always grand and out-there. Simple steps towards better ways to do work without jobs losses is what real innovation is. Encouraging coordinated efforts, welcoming feedback from teams, and incentivizing suggestions for improvement is what inspires people and drives them towards creativity at work. Acknowledging and rewarding innovative contributions can become the way for enhanced efficiency and growth not only at workplaces, but industry- and country-wide. The current Canadian work environment has a bad flavor of the old Soviet era, where conformity and routine overshadowed creativity and progress.
