Toronto thrives on the creativity of its artists, who not only paint the city’s skyline with color but also contribute to its economic vitality. From galleries and festivals to public installations and performances, art fuels tourism, drives local businesses, and creates jobs that keep our city’s economy flourishing. But art's influence goes far beyond dollars—it's a bridge between cultures, a means of expression, and a force for social change that strengthens the bonds of our diverse communities. When we believe in art, we believe in a more inclusive, vibrant, and prosperous Toronto. Let’s invest in the artists who shape our city’s identity and future. Tag an artist in the comments that inspires you to believe in Toronto. #BelieveInToronto #BelieveInArt #TorontoArts Image description: Photographers take a photo of a young man standing in front of a graffiti wall Photo Credit: JAYU Canada

External Opportunity! Call for Applications: Harvesting Roots / Cultivating Hope This project invites artists originally from the SWANA region and East Africa to reinterpret and reimagine the notion of “adaptation” through their lived experiences of migration and/or living between two different places (their home countries and Canada). The participating artists will get the chance to discuss their previous work and work in progress in a more playful context. The studio visits and interviews will be carried out while walking, eating or other activities approved by the artists and the curator. The outcome of this research will allow each artist to contribute to a publication in variable formats like writing, illustration, images of their artworks or any relevant representation. The deadline has been extended to September 9. To learn more about the project and apply, please click the link below. https://lnkd.in/gvhANU3z

Watch DÈYÈ DO BON DIÉ (BEHIND GOD’S BACK) by Roy Jox-Fredstie (r.) in-person on Sept 4th at the 19th annual CaribbeanTales International Film Festival! Get your Festival Pass today at 🎟 caribbeantalesfestival.com “dèyè do bon dié” is a textured exploration of the North of Martinique. A mostly agricultural region of the French-Caribbean island, where the deceptively simple lifestyle hides a layered and complex identity, one under the direct threat of a reawakening volcano. The movie paints a collective portrait of the North by taking the viewer through a vivid visual and sonic collage of the volcanic landscapes, whilst continuously asking its population to define the meaning of home, danger, and identity.
