  • 🌟 Jasper Federal Land Rent and Fee Announcement 🌟 The Parks Canada through the federal government has announced rent and fee relief for residents and businesses in Jasper, effective from April 1, 2024, to March 31, 2027. This measure aims to support the community's recovery from the recent wildfires and help alleviate financial pressures. Today, in his new role as Ministerial Lead to Jasper, the Honourable Randy Boissonnault, Minister of Employment, Workforce Development and Official Languages and Member of Parliament for Edmonton Centre, on behalf of the Honourable Steven Guilbeault, Minister of Environment and Climate Change and Minister responsible for Parks Canada, announced rent relief for Parks Canada administered leases and licences in Jasper National Park. This rent forgiveness of up to $15.2 million provides financial relief to business owners, tenants and residents impacted by the wildfire. “Through Parks Canada, the federal government is working with the Municipality of Jasper and all Jasperites to ease the burden they face while rebuilding their community. This rent relief will support lessees and licensees who are experiencing financial hardship and unexpected costs to rebuild or repair properties damaged by the wildfire.” Honourable Randy Boissonnault Minister of Employment, Workforce Development and Official Languages and Member of Parliament for Edmonton Centre Revenue-generating opportunities in Jasper National Park have been significantly reduced and are not expected to recover quickly due to the wildfire. TIAA has been advocating for this essential support through Parks Canada, recognizing its importance for our Jasper partners, members, and the broader tourism industry. This relief is crucial for Jasper businesses as it can help accelerate recovery efforts and relieve cash flow constraints. "Today's announcement of rent and fee relief by Parks Canada for Jasper residents and businesses is incredibly welcome." said Darren Redder, CEO of the Tourism Industry Association of Alberta (TIAA). "The Jasper recovery is very much in early days, some businesses have just reopened, and others are still on a long path to recovery. Jasper National Park will require continued cooperation from the public, private and NGO sectors as their economy slowly rebuilds." Jasper and Jasper National Park is open and TIAA encourages responsible visitation to Jasper. • 🧡 Honouring National Day for Truth and Reconciliation 🧡 On Canada's National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, we pause to reflect on the tragic legacy of residential schools and the ongoing impacts on Indigenous Peoples. In Alberta’s tourism industry, we have the opportunity and responsibility to contribute to the healing and reconciliation process by fostering respectful relationships with Indigenous communities. On September 30, we honour the voices, stories, and invaluable contributions of Indigenous Peoples across Alberta. This day encourages us to learn from the past, recognize the enduring impacts of colonization, and strengthen our commitment to meaningful partnerships with Indigenous communities. Indigenous Tourism Alberta and Travel Alberta continue to lead the way in supporting Indigenous tourism. Their work represents critical steps toward a more equitable and inclusive industry where Indigenous perspectives and leadership are central. However, we recognize that the journey toward reconciliation requires ongoing effort. Here’s how we can contribute on this important day: 📚 Educate yourself about the history of residential schools, treaties, and the lasting impacts on Indigenous communities. 🔗 Engage with Indigenous communities by actively listening to their stories and understanding their perspectives. 🌾 Promote and support Indigenous-led businesses and experiences, contributing to the growth of Indigenous tourism in Alberta. 🧡 Encourage residents and visitors to explore authentic Indigenous experiences that foster respect, appreciation, and a deeper connection to Indigenous cultures. Travel Alberta and Indigenous Tourism Alberta's groundbreaking efforts are just the beginning. Our ongoing commitment to reconciliation and equitable tourism practices remains essential as we work together to build trust and create meaningful opportunities for Indigenous communities. For more information on how you can engage in reconciliation, visit the Indigenous Tourism Alberta Toolkit. https://loom.ly/yPkDPsU #EveryChildMatters #TruthAndReconciliation #IndigenousVoices #OrangeShirtDay
