Yesterday I was in the Town of Strathmore in Wheatland County to present over 30 awards and medals to RCMP employees. These ceremonies never cease to amaze me. From bravery to long service to community initiatives, Alberta RCMP employees are people Albertans can be proud to have serve in their communities. #YourAlbertaRCMP

Many of us know someone personally dealing with mental health challenges—and many of us are navigating them ourselves. For leaders working in business and economic recovery, the mental toll can be profound. At the Economic Developers Association of Canada (EDAC) 2024 Annual Conference, EDA’s Leann Hackman-Carty, Ec.D. , alongside Angela Groeneveld, Senior Manager, Economic Stability and Investment, Town of Strathmore and Munira M., Mental Health & Psychosocial Support Recovery Manager, Canadian Red Cross shared powerful stories of the mental health struggles faced by economic developers and business owners. They emphasized the importance of recognizing stressors and taking ownership of mental wellness by using strategies and resources that truly help. EDA is excited to collaborate with the Canadian Red Cross to create a new course that equips community economic development leaders with the tools to manage life’s pressures—both at work and at home. This course will be available at the EDA Institute in 2025. Let’s prioritize mental wellness and build stronger, more resilient communities. We’re pretty fortunate to have an Indigenous Liaison on staff. It’s a great resource for the community year-round, but for Town employees, arguably the biggest impact occurs each September 30 when Astokomii Smith helps push our reconciliation efforts forward with education and training. Our staff serve every part of Strathmore, 24/7, all year round, and today was about leading them through important exercises so we can continue leading by example and making a difference in the community. 🧡 #Municipalities #LocalGovernment #LeadByExample

Alberta's First Responders Radio System (AFRRCS) helps police, fire, and ambulance teams work together for faster, safer responses. The system has been operational since July 2016, but not all municipalities in Alberta are current participants due to the investment required in the radios needed to access the system. Unfortunately, the outlay of dollars for these radios is cost intrusive to many budgets in towns, villages and counties with vast space and smaller populations. For context, a larger community like Strathmore required a $250,000 investment to furnish the number of radios required to support the detachment. Strathmore knows how critical this tool is for safety, especially in emergencies. That’s why we’ve worked with the Village of Rockyford and the Town of Mayerthorpe to bring resolution B7: Alberta First Responders Radio Communications System Equipment Funding to Alberta Municipalities | Strength in Members. Advocating for the province to help fund radios in smaller municipalities will ensure they can access this life-saving system and help all first responders have the tools they need to keep Albertans safe. #CommunitySafety #AFRRCS #AlbertaMunicipalities

Alberta Day! 📸 *** "Thank you all for joining us today and welcome to Strathmore’s very first Alberta Day community event. I managed to spend 30 years teaching high school English and avoiding social studies, but today I don’t mind giving a brief history of why we’re here. In 2022, the Government of Alberta established Alberta Day, celebrated annually on September 1st, commemorating the day in 1905 when Alberta officially became Canada’s eighth province. Before Alberta's establishment as a province, the area was part of the North-West Territories, a vast region that encompassed much of what is now western Canada. Alberta's growth was fueled by a mix of Indigenous communities, Métis, and European settlers. The completion of the Canadian Pacific Railway and the booming agricultural and resource industries attracted more settlers, leading to a push for greater political representation and control over local affairs. The journey from frontier territory to thriving province is a testament to the determination and vision of those who helped shape Alberta into what it is today—a proud and integral part of Canada. This holiday may not give you a paid day off work, but it’s certainly an occasion deserving of recognition." - Mayor Fule

Strathmore’s MDP review is starting to take shape and we’d love for you to get involved! Today is our first public engagement sessions and there are two time options for you to choose from. Join along from noon to 2 p.m. or 5 to 7 p.m. (link below for contact details). A MDP is like a big-picture plan for how a municipality wants to grow and change over time. It helps ensure the community is organized and growing in a way that benefits everyone who lives there. Think of it like making a “to-do” list of all the things that need to be done to make the community a great place! 🏙️How can we make sure the Downtown remain vibrant and healthy? 🌳How can we enhance green spaces and recreational areas tomeet the needs of our growing population? 🚲What measures can we take to improve connectivity between neighborhoods and key community amenities? 📈How can we promote economic development while maintaining the town’s character and quality of life? 💧What steps must we take to ensure that our water and waste management systems are future-proof? These are just some of the areas that are often considered in a MDP, and we’re looking for community feedback to help answer some of these questions. Learn more about what’s next and how to participate at https://lnkd.in/dK4JPm5n #mdp #municipaldevelopmentplan #planning #publicengagement
