HART Associate Director, Craig Jones, spoke with CBC News about BC Hotel Association's new report on short-term rental restrictions, highlighting the efficacy of the new rules. The study calculates that communities could see a 4% decline in rent by 2027 - totalling $592M of rent savings per year. "This implies that, if the province's STR rules were to be repealed after 2024, within two years B.C. renter households in these cities would have paid an extra $1 billion in rent," the study added.

This week the HART team were thrilled to host Victorian Planning and Environmental Law Association from Australia at our offices to talk about the HART project and learn about shared challenges and opportunities to #housing policy in Canada and Australia.

As more data is collected and shared about #housing, it becomes clearer and clearer that a supply only approach will not address our crisis. New townhomes are not accessible to the nearly quarter million #homeless individuals in Ontario. Nor are fourplexes serving over 35k households in Vancouver who can only afford $1,000/month.
