  • Thank you to the Edmonton Oilers Entertainment Group for hosting the 3rd annual “Ukrainian Heritage Night” at the @Edmonton Oilers game on January 6. It was a night filled with celebration, community, and support for a significant cause. We were honored to have UCC-APC President Orysia Boychuk, Edmonton Catholic School District Ukrainian Bilingual Parent Advisory Society President Michelle Lea-Wilson, and Canada-Ukraine Foundation Board Director Olesia Luciw-Andryjowycz serve as Honour Guards at the game, adding a touch of distinction to the event. The evening offered a unique opportunity to showcase the Ukrainian community through four different vignettes. Janice Krissa Moore, MBA from Free Store for Ukrainian Newcomers, Ostap Fedorenko, a Ukrainian newcomer enrolled in Minor Ice Hockey, Kateryna Korzhenna, a Ukrainian newcomer Pastry Chef at Rogers Place, and Sofiia Hrynevych, a Ukrainian newcomer employee at the Ukrainian Newcomer Furniture Warehouse were featured, highlighting the diverse contributions of Ukrainian newcomers to Edmonton. The undeniable highlight of the night was the captivating performances by Axios Men's Ensemble and Cheremosh Ukrainian Dance Company. Their enchanting routines and melodies infused the event with the rich essence of Ukrainian heritage, leaving a lasting impact on all attendees. A special acknowledgment goes to UCC-APC Board Director Andriy Tovstiuk, the program coordinator for Ukrainian Heritage Night with the Edmonton Oilers, for his outstanding efforts in organizing the event. His dedication played a pivotal role in the success of the night, ensuring a seamless and memorable experience for everyone involved. We extend our gratitude to everyone who came out to support the event, purchased 50/50 tickets in support of the Canada Ukraine Foundation, and special thanks to our devoted 50/50 volunteer sellers. Your contributions will make a significant impact in supporting Ukraine's fight for freedom through the Canada-Ukraine Foundation.

  • UCC-APC is grateful for the opportunity to meet with Garnett Genuis, Conservative MP for Sherwood Park — Fort Saskatchewan. Our Ukrainian community leaders in Alberta appreciated your time and attention as we discussed the unanimous decision of the Conservative Party of Canada (CPC) on the Canada-Ukraine Free Trade Agreement (CUFTA). Thank you, Garnett Genuis, for hearing our concerns and engaging in a meaningful dialogue. We look forward to future collaboration and anticipate a stronger position by the CPC in support of Ukraine.

  • This week, the President and Board of the Ukrainian Canadian Congress - Alberta Provincial Council had the opportunity to meet with Deputy Prime Minister & Minister of Finance Chrystia Freeland. It was a privilege to share with her the incredible support Alberta’s Ukrainian community continues to show for Ukrainian evacuees fleeing the war. With an expected 70,000 more Ukrainians coming to Canada in 2024, we need to continue programs to help them succeed here. We also discussed the vital importance of passing the updates to the Canadian-Ukrainian Free Trade Agreement and we urge all MPs to vote in favour. It is more important than ever to support Ukraine in its continuing struggle against the brutal and illegal invasion by Russia. #standwithukraine #albertastandswithukraine Randy Boissonnault François-Philippe Champagne
