Think a glamorous website design is a better investment than great wording? Sorry but Unbounce says you're wrong ❌ Their study found that website copy has 'twice the relative influence to convert over design'. Basically, the words on your website are twice as powerful as the images, layout, colours and graphics when it comes to convincing people to take action. You know, all those things you would love your web visitors to do, like subscribing to your newsletter, booking a trip to your museum, donating to your charity... And if brilliant copy is twice as impactful as brilliant visuals (which are doing a pretty good job as it is), just think how much more powerful it could be than clunky sentences and dodgy translations. I'm not saying we should all strip back to Windows 95 or gov.uk-style homepages as long as the words are good. But if you're allocating a big chunk of your budget to web design while cobbling together the words on a shoestring, you might want to rethink that! You can read the post here 👉https://lnkd.in/eFQ4dG7x ----- Hi I'm Amy 👋 I translate and write people-friendly communications content for busy teams who care. If you're thinking about refreshing your website but are short on time or British cultural know-how, drop me a DM.

I spent last week researching how much copy is "too much" for donation pages, and the answers shouldn't surprise you 🫨 If you joined last week's livestream with Nathan on 5 Tactics to Grow Donations and Maximize Year-End Revenue, you know we focused a lot on donation page value props. It makes sense—this is where your nonprofit's mission and the impact of a donation are first explained. One question we got was, "How much is too much?" Turns out, there’s some data to guide us: Using fancy words? Expect a 24% drop in CVR. Writing too much? That CVR drops 20%. More words = 18% lower CVR. Biggest takeaway: The simpler, the better. In fact, writing at a 5th-7th grade reading level doubles your CVR vs. writing "professionally." Now, you're probably thinking, “How do I write for a 7th grader?” It’s tricky - I know so many who’ve spent their lives mastering copywriting. But there are free tools to help you start writing value prop copy that leads to impact. I’m no expert, but here are 3 tools I always use: 💾 ChatGPT: Helps me simplify my copy and make it concise (literal prompt I use --> Review this copy and make it more concise and read at a 7th grade level). 👊 Make it Punchy: Not specifically for nonprofits, but this book is a goldmine for writing and a MUST READ. 🤝 Follow a writing pro: It’s always good to follow the experts who make writing look easy. Here are some of my favs: Katelyn Baughan, Caroline Griffin, Emma Stratton, Devin Reed Do you have any go-to moves to help your donation page copy cut through the noise? Drop em in the comments - I'm always looking to learn 🏴☠️ S/O to Unbounce for doing the hard data work in their recent CVR benchmark report - will drop the link in the comments.
