Yesterday, representatives from across Niagara joined United Way’s Frances Hallworth to raise one flag in solidarity. The ceremony was a symbolic gesture of hope and support for Niagara’s most vulnerable residents. In remarks from Regional Chair, Jim Bradley and CEO, Frances Hallworth, the importance of United Way in all our communities was shared. “We all want the same thing,” said Frances. “For everyone in our communities to have what they need to thrive.” Thank you to Jim Bradley, Niagara Region, Mayor Junkin, Town of Pelham, ON, Mayor Mat Siscoe, City of St. Catharines, Tony Baldinelli, Wayne Gates and representatives of Vance Badawey and Jennie Stevens for attending and showing your support of United Way. The message was clear, let’s work together towards solutions that work for every person in Niagara. #flagraising #UnitedWay

United Way works to tackle social issues in the Niagara region, investing in basic needs and long-term solutions.
About us
WHAT WE DO United Way Niagara exists to support the most vulnerable people, when and where they need it, by investing in life-changing programs that strengthen the social safety net and build capacity in Niagara. We face poverty head on, addressing the interconnected issues it causes every day; homelessness, food insecurity, isolation, mental health and addiction. United, we address the challenges of today – meeting basic, urgent needs - while building a stronger community for everyone who lives here, paving the way for a better tomorrow. HOW WE DO IT United Way Niagara not only meets the immediate, urgent and basic needs in the short term, we also bring together the private, public and social sectors to tackle the systemic social issues that are often the root cause of these needs. We understand that in order for whole communities to thrive, the needs of every individual living there must be met. Needs such as access to nutritious food, safe housing, stable income and social connections. We also understand that complex social issues are often caused by systemic problems that are fundamental contributing factors to vulnerability. Poverty, discrimination and inequity are prime examples of these issues.

A thriving community requires a strong social safety net – one that supports every person, ensuring no one is left behind. Social issues like poverty are complex. After all, someone experiencing homelessness or food insecurity, needs more than just shelter or a meal. Your support strengthens the social safety net as a whole, providing access to nutritious food, safe housing, stable income and crucial social connections. #WhatWeDo

For people who use and those who don’t. For heartbroken friends and family members of lost loved ones. For activists who fight for sorely needed policy reform. For healthcare and harm reduction workers. For tireless advocates. Overdose can affect anyone, and we encourage you to remember the tenacity of our community. #TogetherWeCan #EndOverdose #IOAD2024

This year's "Backpacks for Kids" program was an overwhelming success, made possible by the incredible generosity and support of our community. When Empire Communities learned about our mission, they eagerly stepped forward to make a difference. Lee Koutsaris, VP of Sales & Marketing, represented Empire at last week's packing event, where she shared, “It is Empire’s pleasure to support United Way’s Backpack Program and to give back to the communities that we are building and creating. Empire enjoys seeing communities grow and thrive and this actionable program that ensures children have all their back to school essentials - is truly heartwarming and inspiring. We are wishing all the kids a successful and happy 2024/2025 school year.” Empire Communities joined Kiwanis St. Catharines and Rankin Construction Inc. as a title sponsor with a remarkable individual contribution of $15,000 helping us reach even more children in need. With the continued partnership of such dedicated organizations and individuals, we look forward to making next year's program even more impactful. Together, we are building brighter futures—one backpack at a time. #BackToSchool #BackpacksForKids
