A thriving community requires a strong social safety net – one that supports every person, ensuring no one is left behind. Social issues like poverty are complex. After all, someone experiencing homelessness or food insecurity, needs more than just shelter or a meal. Your support strengthens the social safety net as a whole, providing access to nutritious food, safe housing, stable income and crucial social connections. #WhatWeDo

This great piece by Forbes highlights how the best way forward is to meet unhoused individuals where they are, not to criminalize homelessness. By listening and understanding each displaced person’s unique needs and providing interim shelter solutions, we can create effective pathways to permanent housing. Low-barrier options like the Pallet village model, which allow residents to keep their belongings and stay with their partners or pets, are crucial to help people in a transitional period stabilize and take their next steps. As the article emphasizes: “Incremental solutions are not just necessary but efficient and compassionate.” Click through to read the full Forbes article.

Yesterday, I had an opportunity to attend Homeless Link Summer Conference 24’ to listen and engage with professionals in the homelessness and housing support sector. It was great being in a room with like minded individuals who all feel the same about our current political climate. Whether it is PRS, social housing or even ownership, we can all agree that the system is broken. Some of the key points I took away were the following : 1. Create housing policies that are inclusive for all, despite race, age, level of need or socioeconomic status. 2. Regulations with our landlords need to be tightened. 3. Local authorities needs to start identify what their community needs and responding to them appropriately . 4. In order to meet the needs of the current growth in population, we must address our infrastructure. With a new politcal party in place, I am hoping we see some radical changes.

Homelessness Week: Increased strain on the homeless and our social systems It's peak tourist season here in Cairns. When short-term accommodation options are full or push out crisis occupants, several issues arise: 1. Increased Homelessness: Individuals and families may end up without shelter or in unsuitable conditions. 2. Added Stress: Finding alternative accommodation heightens stress and anxiety. 3. Disruption of Support Services: Interrupted access to essential resources and assistance. 4. Health and Safety Risks: Greater risk of health issues and unsafe conditions. 5. Strain on Emergency Services: Increased demand strains resources and response efforts. Addressing these challenges requires a coordinated response from all sectors to ensure adequate resources and solutions for those in need. Let's work together to make a difference! #HomelessnessWeek #Homesforkids #SupportandSolidarity #EndHomelessness

A State of Emergency Across Developed Nations As far back as 2017, over 100 million people worldwide are homeless. They have no shelter. No security. No hope. UK homelessness expenditure exceeds £1 billion each year. The human costs, however, are much higher. Homelessness is dangerous, destructive and damaging, to any individual or household. Ultimately, it can be fatal. The average homeless person has a life expectancy of just 47 or 43; for men and women respectively. As a society, what can we do? We can ignore it. We can manage it. Or, WE CAN SOLVE IT. We have a responsibility to carry out, a purpose to fulfill, a smile to give, a life to touch, a dream to achieve and a difference to make! This is because we're one family. One human family and when we work and walk together in unity, we will be able to DO SO MUCH WITH SO LITTLE. Kindly reach out to us and become our partner. Let's know what you do and let's write about you @the peopleshub Varle Report #Endinghomelessness #livingalifeofimpact

Housing is a human right. So why are 1.5million households stuck on social housing waitings lists in the UK? And with one in four stuck in that limbo reporting that they feel hopeless, according to Crisis and Lloyds Banking Group research, inaction feels inhumane. This is something Blurred has been working on over the summer, and is close to our hearts. Great stuff by Stuart, Costanza, Tapiwa, Leila, Sam, and Murat among others; Shelley, Conor, Sarah, Chris, Nathan, Lottie and more at Lloyds Banking Group; and myriad folks at Crisis including but absolutely not limited to Elena, Sophie, Jessica and Mitch. #socialhousing #lloydsbankinggroup #crisis #homelessness #publicpolicy
W is for waiting list. There are over 1.5 million households on social housing waiting lists in the UK. Often leading to people feeling like their lives are on hold. But we have the power to change that. Together with Crisis, we’re calling for one million more homes at social rent over the next decade to end homelessness for good.

🌍✊ February 20 marks World Social Justice Day. Every person deservers access to safe, permanent and affordable housing, yet many in our community face the harsh reality of homelessness. This isn’t just a housing issue; it’s a matter social justice issue. There are many systemic factors perpetuating homelessness and housing insecurity, and we at Common Ground Queensland are dedicated to ending the cycle of homelessness, one person at a time. By advocating for policies and frameworks that favour supportive housing as a means to end homelessness, and by promoting the Common Ground model as a means of providing permanent, affordable and safe housing for the most vulnerable in our community, Common Ground Queensland hopes to create a space where everyone has a place to call home. #WorldSocialJusticeDay #EndHomelessness #SupportiveHousing #CommonGround

1.5m families and households in the UK are stuck on a social housing Waiting list that never seems to end. One in four of them say they feel hopeless and have Zero way out. That's just the W and the Z of an entire alphabet - from A-to-Z - of social and health problems caused by our homelessness and social housing crisis. It's an alphabet no child should have to learn - yet it is one that thousands are living, daily. This situation is dramatised in the film, Waiting List, below. Our client Lloyds Banking Group is working with Crisis to end this emergency. Campaigning for one million more homes at social rent over the next decade to end homelessness for good. Really proud of this work: few issues are more urgent, are more relevant right now, and will affect wider positive #impact than tackling this. More detail on the campaign in the comments.
