🗺️ In a rapidly evolving region like Asia, how can we tackle today’s challenges, seize new opportunities, and prepare for what’s ahead? At International Development Research Centre (IDRC), we believe research is key to finding solutions. That’s why we were proud to support and participate in the Canada in Asia Conference in Singapore last week! 🌏 ✨ Our goal: To share how research can drive meaningful change across Asia. For over five decades, IDRC-supported research has identified key challenges, developed solutions, and informed public policy—especially when led by experts closest to the issues. 📝 Here’s a recap of the IDRC-led discussions at #CIAC2025: 🔹 Lunch Plenary & Side Event: We highlighted cutting-edge research from our partners—on everything from strengthening social science research in the Indo-Pacific, digital innovation to building climate-smart villages. Speakers included Julia Scott from Universities Canada, Helani Galpaya from LIRNEasia, Jean-Louis Arcand from Global Development Network, Joseph Wong from University of Toronto and Ma. Shiela Santos - Anunciado from IIRR. This week, we were pleased to host a two-day virtual research security workshop, in partnership with Universities Canada and the Russell Group of Universities. This event brought together representatives from Canadian and British universities to exchange valuable insights and strategies for building secure research partnerships - a great example of Canada-UK collaboration. Special thanks to U15 Canada, the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT), and our speakers from Canadian and UK universities for their invaluable contributions to this initiative. Exciting news! uOttawa is proud to be a key player in the transformative BCDI 2030 program, an eight-year, $80 million initiative funded by Global Affairs Canada. This program, implemented in partnership with the Colleges and Institutes Canada/Universities Cananda consortium, will provide education and training to more than 7000 scholarship recipients, including 51% women, from 26 partner countries. Through the CEReSa project, in collaboration with our longstanding partners Université d’Abomey-Calavi and the Institut Régional Supérieur de Santé Publique we're supporting healthcare professionals in Benin with short-term training, Master's programs, and expanding opportunities for women in healthcare. Together, we are strengthening healthcare systems and fostering sustainable partnerships that will have a lasting impact. This initiative is a vital step toward advancing gender equality, healthy lives, and sustainable development, all aligned with the UN's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Grande nouvelle ! uOttawa est fier d’être un acteur clé du programme BCDI 2030, une initiative transformatrice de 80 millions de dollars, financée par Affaires mondiales Canada. Ce programme, mis en œuvre en partenariat avec le consortium Collèges et Instituts Canada/Universités Canada, offrira une éducation et une formation à plus de 7000 boursières et boursiers, dont 51% de femmes, originaires de 26 pays partenaires. 🌍   Grâce au projet CEReSa, en collaboration avec nos partenaires de longue date de l’Université d’Abomey-Calavi et l’Institut Régional Supérieur de Santé Publique, nous soutenons les professionnel•les  de la santé au Bénin avec des formations à courte durée, des programmes de maîtrise, ainsi qu’ en élargissant les opportunités pour les femmes dans le domaine de la santé. Ensemble, nous renforçons les systèmes de santé et favorisons des partenariats durables ayant un impact durable.   Cette initiative est une étape essentielle pour promouvoir l'égalité des genres, des vies saines et un développement durable, conformément aux Objectifs de développement durable (ODD) des Nations Unies.
