  • #DidYouKnow? The performance and range of an electric vehicle depend on its battery chemistry —and one of the most important materials inside that battery is nickel. Nickel provides lithium batteries with increased energy density and power performance, enabling electric vehicles with longer battery range to be offered. 🔋 Before it can store and release energy on the road, nickel goes through an incredible transformation. At Vale Base Metals, we produce high-purity carbonyl nickel powder, pellets, and electrolytic rounds using the carbonyl process, a refining method that ensures exceptional purity. This nickel is then converted into nickel sulfate, a key ingredient in battery precursors. From there, it becomes cathode material, which powers lithium-ion batteries—the core component of EV lithium-battery technology. ⚡ But producing battery materials is only part of the equation. As demand for EVs and energy storage solutions accelerates, so do the challenges around supply security, sustainability, and innovation. These are the conversations driving the International Battery Seminar, where this week, our team is in Orlando connecting with industry leaders to explore what’s next for battery technology. We’re looking forward to the discussions at #IBS2025 and to sharing how Vale Base Metals is helping power the future. See you there! #FloridaBattery #ValeNickel #EVs #BatteryMaterials #EnergyTransition #WeAreValeBaseMetals

Happy Birthday, Ludwig Mond! 🎉   #DidYouKnow that one of the most important breakthroughs in nickel refining was discovered by chemist and industrialist Ludwig Mond more than a century ago? In 1890, Mond discovered nickel carbonyl, leading to the development of the Mond process - the foundation of carbonyl refining. This process converts nickel intermediates into nickel metal with very high purity attainable in just one step. By 1902, the Mond process was first commercialized at what is now Vale's Clydach Nickel Refinery in Wales, where it is still used to produce some of the purest nickel in the world.   More than 120 years later, Vale Base Metals is the world leader in using carbonyl refining processes to produce high-purity nickel powder and pellets at our refineries in Wales and Canada. Our carbonyl nickel is essential for several important applications in different industries such as automotive, aerospace, electronics, power generation, chemicals, 3D printing, high technology, electroplating, and more - powering the industries of today and tomorrow. 🚀🧪🚘   Today, as we celebrate Ludwig Mond's birthday, we also celebrate a discovery that continues to shape the future of high-performance nickel production.   Learn more about our high-purity nickel products at the link below⬇️ https://lnkd.in/e7Zv6yGc    #WeAreValeBaseMetals #ValeNickel #CarbonylRefining

  • A huge congratulations to the Onto discovery team, which received the Thayer Lindsley Award at a ceremony in Toronto on Tuesday during #PDAC2025. The award, named after Thayer Lindsley, one of the greatest mine finders of all time, is bestowed on a recent mineral discovery with potential economic viability anywhere in the world. And the Onto Discovery, located on Sumbawa Island in Indonesia, certainly meets that criteria. The Onto discovery, which became the Hu’u Project, is expected to produce 300-400 kilotons of copper annually and up to 440,000 ounces of gold per year at peak production over a ~50-year mine life. PT Sumbawa Timur Mining, a majority-owned joint venture of Vale Base Metals, holds a controlling interest in the project. Our Chief Technical Officer, Chris McCleave, presented the award to the Onto discovery team, which includes: David Burt    David Burrows    Mike Rennison  Fabio Masotti   Rachmat Pratiwinda   Nurhadi Wibowo On Wednesday, Bede Evans, President Director of PT Sumbawa Timur Mining, and David Burt, former Indonesia Exploration Manager at Vale, gave a keynote presentation about the discovery, status of the project, and future plans. Bede thanked the Indonesian Government for their continued support and acknowledged the hard work of the entire Hu’u Project team in advancing the discovery to the pre-feasibility study stage of development. Congratulations, again, to the Onto discovery team! #EnergyTransitionMetals #CopperGrowth #PDAC2025
