About us
As Canada’s largest network of women in finance, VersaFi is dedicated to providing a voice and platform for networking, mentorship, and development opportunities for its community of more than 4,000 members. Our role is to accelerate equity for women in finance. We do this in three key ways: by fostering a pipeline of talented women in the sector, at all career levels; by bringing together women in finance, with shared experiences and career goals, to provide opportunities for education and networking; and by working with the industry to address barriers, share best practices and strategies for progress, and implementing policies and practices to advance gender equity. Another important reminder about the wealth transfer taking place between men and women and why having women wealth and investment advisors is so important: "In Canada, RBC Wealth Management projects that women will control $4tn in assets by 2028, almost doubling their current share." This is one of the many reasons we, at VersaFi (formerly WCM), are committed to encouraging women into the sector and ensuring that they have the tools to thrive once here. Launched in June 2022, our #ParentalLeavePledge provides a roadmap for organizations to follow to ensure that their parental leave policies and practices are inclusive and equitable to all those who use them. PwC Canada was one of more than 20 organizations that signed this Pledge to take action (https://lnkd.in/eJEtnDH8). It’s not just about the creation and implementation of a flexible, inclusive parental leave policy, which is an important first step. It’s also about working to help evolve cultural norms and finding ways to foster a more supportive and inclusive work environment for everyone. The new WBG Gender Strategy has been released! I'm a little late to the party because I have been trying find the right words to describe what it has been like to be a part of the core team developing this strategy. To say it has been a labour of love by a team of committed and passionate individuals, is an understatement. To say that the strategy has benefitted from insights from around the world, doesn't do it justice. To say that our 'work is done', is impossible. What I can say, is that this strategy is a clear picture of what collaboration can build. Across organizations, sectors, perspectives, countries, and continents - incredible people have contributed their ideas and efforts with the goal of developing a strategy that will truly #accelerateequality. The challenge of overcoming inequality sometimes feels insurmountable, but I am convinced that by working together we can achieve the ambitious goals this strategy sets out. Onward!

During our webinar with Fix The Broken Rung, we discussed the crucial roles that allies, mentors and sponsors play in creating a more equitable industry. Panelist Hao Tian shared some personal insight into the importance of allyship in her own career; “I do think allyship is very very important in the financial world. I personally experienced the power of allyship through my Return to Bay Street journey because the program is a really tailor-made program. While not all conversations lead to job offerings, building allyship throughout the way is very helpful. You get more people advocating for you, probably behind the door, and that actually increases your chance to getting in a new role, or getting promoted. I think that’s the power of allyship.” — Hao T., Director of Sustainability Advisory, CIBC Capital Markets VersaFi’s Return to Bay Street Program helps women re-enter the finance sector after a period of leave, or after immigration.
