We just wrapped up an exciting project with Western University's Materials Science Addition. Here’s a sneak peek of their finished space! It’s both contemporary and functional, including mitred glass, cut at unique angles, sliding hinge doors and showcases an existing, beautiful limestone wall. Western needed to complete this project on a firm timeline and with minimal disruption to staff and students, making prefabricated construction an ideal choice. Earlier this year, our partners at DIRTT (whose innovative products we use in our spaces) showed us this machine, the only one of its kind in North America, which applies a very thin layer of real wood veneer to aluminum. The finished product looks and feels like a solid piece of wood, but it’s lighter and more stable. Not only is the end result beautiful, but it’s more sustainable, too. The end piece uses about 1-2% of what would be used with a solid piece of wood, and aluminum extrusions are easily recycled later down the road.
