Today we reflect and honour survivors, their families and communities affected by the legacy of residential schools for Orange Shirt Day and National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. Through orange shirts sold at Walmart from Indigenous Proud, we’re pleased to share that 100% of the profits will be donated to the Official Orange Shirt Society and Indian Residential School Survivors Society. This year's orange shirts feature artwork by Natasha Root, who is from the Listuguj Mi’gmaq First Nation in Quebec. Here’s what Natasha shared about her design: “In almost every tribe, a wolf is a sacred animal. They are the empowerment of hunting, protection, loyalty, strength and success. A wolf represents the humility that allows us to guide our children. This design serves as a timeless reminder that, regardless of the era, our children will always matter.” Watch the video below to learn more about the meaning behind Orange Shirt Day and its founder Phyllis Webstad. “There’s something deeply satisfying about investing in yourself and seeing tangible results, both in my day-to-day work and in my long-term career,” shared Mustafa Hashmi, Quality Assurance Team Lead. “I’ve seen firsthand how the skills and certifications gained through LBU can directly lead to career advancement opportunities.” One month after completing his Supply Chain Management certificate through Walmart Canada’s Live Better U program, Mustafa was promoted to Quality Assurance Team Lead at DC6072 in Surrey, British Columbia! LBU offers a path for all associates, whether they’re looking to accelerate their growth, get in-demand credentials, or receive a degree or licensing for a specialized role. In July, Mustafa started working on his next certificate in Excel through Live Better U. One of the reasons LBU sticks out to Mustafa is its focus on real world applications. “The skills and insights gained can often be applied immediately to your work, leading to quick wins that could boost your confidence and performance,” said Mustafa. Congratulations to Mustafa on his promotion and all of our LBU students who’ve prioritized their upskilling! Our Chief Technology Officer Michon Williams recently sat down with Michael LeBlanc of the Voice of Retail podcast to chat about all things tech. "We have a value in Walmart Canada Tech, called 'more value sooner', which is: what is the next best thing that we can be working on that solves the immediate problem?" shared Michon. "It has to be about constantly saying: 'what's going to add the most value to the customer and associate tomorrow?'" Listen to the Voice of Retail wherever you listen to podcasts and hear from Michon on her career journey, early interest in technology, and advice for emerging leaders in tech. 🎙️: https://lnkd.in/gc8uZF2f Michon Williams, Rachael Neumayer, Michael LeBlanc #Walmart #WalmartCanada #Technology
