Today we’re celebrating our 2024 Store of the Year: Store 1094 at 6110 Currents Drive in Edmonton, AB!   This highly coveted award goes to the top store out of our 400+ Walmart Canada locations. The honour recognizes a store that demonstrates exceptional performance, outstanding customer service, and strong associate engagement and satisfaction.   Joe Schrauder, Walmart Canada's COO Store Operations, presented the award at our annual Year Beginning Meeting held earlier this month in Toronto. The store manager, Paul Nielsen, was also commended for his exceptional leadership and strong commitment to his team, his store, and the community.   “The team was super excited. They all congratulated me, and I congratulated them,” Paul said. “The team is extremely proud. Meet Sandeep Bhogal, one of our HR Business Partners at head office in Mississauga! Sandeep started with the company in an entry level position over 19 years ago and she quickly realized the opportunities at Walmart are endless.  Through the many career development and educational programs available at Walmart, Sandeep was supported in pursuing her HR certification. Today, she’s glad so many others have the same opportunity to advance their career at Walmart through initiatives like Live Better U. “I’ve had many mentors that have helped me, challenged me, and inspired me to advance my career. Today, many Hindu and other communities across the world are celebrating Holi, the Festival of Colours. Holi signifies the end of winter and the arrival of spring, and is a time of joy, togetherness, and renewal. The festival is celebrated with food, song, dance, and the playful tradition of throwing brightly coloured powders and dyes. When Uxbridge Walmart store manager Penelope Pick-Quibell (Penny) was seven years old, her life was forever changed. Her dad, their family’s sole provider, passed away just before Christmas. “Waking up on Christmas morning to no toys and very little food was a stark introduction to the harsh realities of life. It was difficult for me to understand why Santa didn't come that year,” shared Penny. Later that day, members from the church and the local food bank came to their home, bringing boxes of food and gifts. “Their kindness and generosity lit up our home and filled our hearts with hope,” Penny said. In her role as store manager, Penny now shares her own story of facing food insecurity to encourage customers and associates to donate to our annual Fight Hunger. Today is International Women’s Day: an opportunity for us to celebrate the economic, social, cultural and political achievement of women.  To mark the day, we’re proud to offer t-shirts and reusable bags featuring a design from Toronto-based artist Anika Mustafiz. The design, titled Sisterhood, shows three women with diverse skin tones and distinct features, embodying sisterhood, unity, and empowerment, Anika says in her artist statement.  The shirts and bags will be available in-store and online at Walmart.ca throughout March. This week, Gonzalo Gebara wrapped up his 25-year career with Walmart after announcing his plans to return to Argentina to be with family. Gonzalo has worked in multiple Walmart markets throughout his career, but we were lucky enough to have him as our CEO in Canada for the past two years.    Gonzalo was a vocal and consistent champion of our associates throughout his time with Walmart Canada. He always put our associates at the heart of everything we did as a company.  During his time at Walmart Canada, we invested billions of dollars in our stores and supply chain network across the country, strengthened our position as Canada’s largest omnichannel retailer, and invested in our associates through wage increases, leading benefit plans, and educational opportunities.  Thank you, Gonzalo, for your decades of service to Walmart, its associates, and its customers.
