These past two days at the Waste & Recycling Expo Canada have been incredible! I had the chance to showcase our research on Using oyster mushrooms to break down LDPE plastic—a project I’m so proud to be part of, thanks to the support and funding from Generator at Sheridan. Big shoutout to Genevieve Kenny for bringing me onto this project and making this experience possible! One of the best parts? Meeting and getting to know fellow researchers, including some fantastic students from UofT, and learning about their own innovative projects. Everyone was so encouraging and genuinely interested in our work, with many asking about next steps or even offering ideas to help push this research further. Feeling super grateful for these past two days and all the insights, connections, and enthusiasm. Excited to see where this journey leads next!

I had a blast at Waste & Recycling Expo Canada today with Avery Sudsbury! We learned about different technologies, including using AI to recognize the type of waste collected at the curb, geo-tagging bins to track truck routes, and using aerated static pile systems to process compost. Innovative technologies like these can ultimately help us improve our waste collection & diversion systems, and I am excited to see further progress in the future! ✅ Attended my first waste-related conference (more to come hopefully)!

The 2024 Waste & Recycling Expo Canada was a hit for Diljot Badesha and I as the resident MES waste enthusiasts! The diverse facets and cutting-edge innovations in the industry always reinforce my excitement for its future. Some of my highlights from the day: ⭐ Chatting industry trends with D.Trevor Barton and Katrina McGuire, PMP from the Municipal Waste Association ⭐ Learning more about fleet management technology and AI-driven contamination detection with companies like Geotab and WIS ⭐ An impressive student research project on plastic-eating mushrooms by Nazifa Afroz from Sheridan College ⭐ Admiring the Metro Compactor Service Inc. equipment, of course!

The Convertus Group team had a fantastic time at this year’s Canadian Waste & Recycling Expo (CWRE), connecting with industry leaders and sharing our commitment to closing the loop on organic waste.
