On October 4th, we observe the National Day of Action for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two-Spirit People (MMIWG2S+). This day calls for remembrance, justice, and systemic change to address the disproportionately high rates of violence experienced by Indigenous women, girls, and Two-Spirit individuals. The healthcare system plays a vital role in addressing these inequities through culturally sensitive, trauma-informed care. Let’s come together in support of long-term solutions that prevent future violence and promote dignity and equity for all. #FFADA2S+

We are proud to support the recent kick-off of the WRHA Indigenous Health Advisory Committee, hosted by WRHA Indigenous Health Services. This marks a significant step forward in our commitment to reconciliation and building strong partnerships with urban Indigenous, First Nations, Métis, and Inuit communities and organizations. Through collaboration, we will develop a 4-Year Indigenous Health Strategic Plan that aims to close gaps in health equity, improve outcomes for Indigenous Peoples, and address systemic racism in healthcare. Together, we’re creating a governance structure and progress measures that reflect the needs and priorities of the communities we serve. This initiative is a vital part of our work toward meaningful, lasting change. #ReconciliationInAction #IndigenousHealth #EquityInHealthcare #CollaborationForChange

Across Manitoba’s health system, we are taking strides to improve health equity. Last year, Manitoba became the first Canadian Province to collect Race, Ethnicity and Indigenous (REI) identity data as part of the admission process at all hospitals and at CancerCare Manitoba's BreastCheck Program. This initiative is part of a system-wide commitment to improve health equity by identifying and addressing gaps that exist in access, experience and/or outcomes for Racialized individuals.
