The court ruled that Canada breached its duty to consult with the Metis Settlements General Council (MSGC) on the Métis Nation Self-Government Deal. This pivotal ruling serves as a reminder of the importance of consultation and respect for inherent rights in the journey towards reconciliation. 🏠 Samedi dernier, le 13 juillet, nous avons organisé un atelier très instructif sur le thème du logement au Canada, visant à fournir aux nouveaux arrivants les connaissances essentielles pour naviguer dans le paysage locatif. Animée par Maître Justine Mageau du cabinet Witten LLP, la session a couvert des sujets cruciaux tels que les contrats de bail, les dépôts, les états des lieux, l’assurance habitation, l’entretien et les réparations, les systèmes de serrures, les recours en cas de litiges, et bien d'autres. L'atelier a remporté un vif succès, les participants ayant acquis des informations précieuses pour trouver un logement au Canada. Nous sommes enchantés par leur réponse enthousiaste et leur engagement. Un grand merci à Maître Justine Mageau pour son expertise et sa présentation captivante. Earlier this year, Witten partner Ellery Lew discussed the significant case Durand v Higgins, which was decided in spring by the Alberta Court of King’s Bench. This case underscores the legal challenges of social media and the severe repercussions of online defamation. It serves as a stark reminder of the risks associated with reposting defamatory material and explores the jurisdictional challenges of internet posts. This ruling is significant in Canadian law and for our society, and with respect to jurisdiction and online defamation. It is a noteworthy victory for our client in clearing his name and absolving him of the criminal behavior he was wrongly accused of.
