🌟 Learn about YWCA Toronto’s advocacy work in September 🌟 🗣 On September 13th, the YWCA Ontario Coalition presented before the Standing Committee on Justice Policy to speak to Bill 173: Declaring Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) an epidemic, providing testimony and submitting recommendations emphasizing the need for systemic change and stable investments to support survivors and prevent violence. Read the recommendations here: https://lnkd.in/gfdbm66f 💜 On September 16th, at YWCA Toronto’s main office the Gender-Based Violence (GBV)/IPV Working Group co-hosted a GBV sector consultation, collectively discussing how we can ensure meaningful action is taken to address this violence. We heard from Councillor Lily Cheng and City of Toronto staff about the work that has been done so far. 🧡 On September 18th we joined countless others to march in solidarity with Grassy Narrows youth and community members on their path to achieve mercury justice and freedom! 📢 YWCA Ontario’s Submission to the Standing Committee on Justice Policy, Bill 173: Declaring Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) an Epidemic. The YWCA Ontario Coalition, a group of 10 YWCA member associations across Ontario, recently presented before the Standing Committee on Justice Policy to speak to Bill 173: Declaring Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) an epidemic. The YWCA coalition provided testimony and submitted recommendations to the Standing Committee on Justice Policy to address IPV and gender-based violence (GBV) in Ontario emphasizing the need for systemic change and stable investments to support survivors and prevent violence. Nearly 100 municipalities across the province, including Toronto, support a declaration calling Intimate Partner Violence an epidemic. On April 10, 2024, the Ontario Government took a major step forward by moving Bill 173 through to second reading, bringing us closer to the official recognition of what we have long known and been calling for them to name: IPV is an epidemic.
