Adopting the methods of regenerative agriculture can bring a multitude of benefits, from improved soil health, water availability and quality, crop resilience, and biodiversity to nutritious food, productivity and profitability, ultimately leading to more productive farms and healthier communities and economies. A new CSA Group research report, Advancing Regenerative Principles in Canadian Agriculture, explores the regenerative agriculture landscape in Canada and offers ideas on how to overcome barriers to its broader adoption. Ontario's new Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) program is in effect. This means that producers are now responsible for the entire lifecycle of their products, including recycling and disposal. Key impacts of EPR for producers: 🫰 Increased costs: Producers will need to budget for #EPR program fees and compliance costs. 📈 New reporting requirements: Producers will need to track and report on the amount of waste they generate and the recycling rates they achieve. 💡 Product design changes: Producers may need to redesign their products to make them easier to #recycle. How to navigate the new landscape: 🤝 Partner with a Producer Responsibility Organization (PRO): PROs can help producers comply with EPR regulations, manage recycling programs, and reduce costs. 📖 Stay informed: Keep up-to-date on the latest EPR regulations and best practices. ⏳ Plan ahead: Develop a long-term EPR strategy that aligns with your business goals.
