With its latest release, the Open Science and Data Platform provides access to over 152K records, including maps, datasets and science publications, that can be used to help us understand how our actions affect our environment. This update also brings a new way to export or share multiple datasets from a custom map.     Check out some of the highlights from this update ⬇️ 

Earlier this year, a stockpile of Canadian critical minerals, specifically rare earth elements, was on the verge of being exported to China for processing. Rare earths are of strategic importance to Canada and to our allies – they are used in electric vehicles, wind turbines, everyday electronics, and industrial applications. As an example, the processed metals produced from this stockpile alone could be used to power 62,500 electric vehicles. However, China presently controls the vast majority of the processing technology and facilities for rare earths. So, I’m pleased to announce today that we are investing over $16M to support a Rare Earth Processing Facility in Saskatchewan - to ensure the materials not only stay in Canada but that they are processed here - as part of our Critical Minerals Strategy. Canada’s #CriticalMinerals list has been updated following recent consultations. The list now has a total of 34 critical minerals, including the new addition of 🥁...: 1️⃣ high-purity iron 2️⃣ phosphorous 3️⃣ silicon metal To be deemed a “critical mineral” in Canada, a mineral must meet both of the following criteria: ➡️ the supply chain is threatened; and ➡️ there is reasonable chance of the mineral being produced in Canada.
