The only global fund exclusively dedicated to the protection and rehabilitation of cultural heritage in crisis zones.
Info
The International alliance for the protection of heritage (ALIPH) is the only global fund exclusively dedicated to the protection and rehabilitation of cultural heritage in areas in conflict and crisis, and regions vulnerable to climate change. It was founded in March 2017 in response to the massive destruction in recent years of outstanding, often ancient, cultural heritage, particularly in the Middle East and the Sahel region. Based in Geneva, this Swiss foundation has the status of an international organization. ALIPH finances concrete projects carried out by associations, foundations, academic, cultural and heritage institutions, and international organizations. Projects financed by ALIPH target monuments and sites, museums and their collections, documents, archives and manuscripts, and intangible heritage. ALIPH selects a wide variety of projects through regular calls for proposals. When urgent intervention is needed, ALIPH has a dedicated rolling Emergency Relief funding scheme and it can also institute an "Action Plan" to support an affected country or region. All projects are thoroughly reviewed by ALIPH’s Scientific Committee and approved by ALIPH’s Foundation Board.

Nelly Cauliez - Yoann Emile Frisa - Bastien Varoutsikos *** This week, ALIPH staff were trained on crisis response. Faced with an increasing number of emergencies around the world - whether linked to conflict, disaster, or climate change - we need to be even more responsive to support our partners on the ground and protect heritage at risk. A huge thank you to the Federal Office for Civil Protection FOCP and the City of Geneva for this excellent training course and for sharing your invaluable expertise!

🎉 Today is ALIPH's birthday! 🎉 8 years ago today, ALIPH was registered as an international foundation in #Switzerland. Since then, we have grown into a leading global fund for protecting cultural heritage endangered by conflicts and crises as well as climate change in vulnerable areas. Over these 8 years, we have supported over 𝟓𝟎𝟎 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐬 in 𝟒𝟐 𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐬. At our recent team workshop, we reflected on how ALIPH’s work makes us feel. It was inspiring to see that what unites us is the 𝐏𝐑𝐈𝐃𝐄 we have for ALIPH's impact. Our work would not have been possible without our larger 𝐀𝐋𝐈𝐏𝐇 𝐟𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐲 —our governance members, over 30 donors, and, most importantly, the hundreds of incredible partners who implement projects and share our mission. 💫 Thank you for being part of this journey! ✨

This #WomensHistoryMonth we celebrate the women safeguarding cultural heritage in crisis areas. Today, we are honoring Dr. Maria Luisa Russo, PhD, an expert in the conservation of archives and manuscripts. 21 Palestinian cultural heritage professionals were in #Cairo this week to deepen their knowledge on how to protect cultural heritage in #Gaza. In this ALIPH-funded program, these architects, archaeologists, and engineers learned about damage assessment and structural stabilization for built heritage, 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗮 𝗳𝗼𝗰𝘂𝘀 𝗼𝗻 𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗿𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗰𝘆 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗲. The course was organized by the Egyptian Heritage Rescue Foundation (#EHRF) and the Centre for Cultural Heritage Preservation (#CCHP) and it concluded in the presence of the Palestinian Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities and the Egyptian Secretary-General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities. It follows the ALIPH-funded online training that took place in May 2024, gathering 60 participants from the West Bank and Gaza. Alongside key partners such as RIWAQ Centre for Architectural Conservation, Première Urgence Internationale, Welfare Association, and UNESCO, this initiative strengthens a network of trained experts ready to support Gaza’s heritage. #CulturalHeritage #Gaza #HeritagePreservation #ALIPH #EHRF #CCHP #EmergencyResponse 📸 Egyptian Heritage Rescue Foundation

Today, we are honoring Svitlana Stryelnikova and all Ukrainian women working tirelessly to protect heritage at risk. Over the course of the war in Ukraine, ALIPH has supported 800 heritage professionals in #Ukraine, 75% of whom are #women. Dr. Svitlana Stryelnikova earned her doctoral degree from the National Academy of Fine Arts and Architecture in Kyiv and has more than 40 years of experience as a heritage professional. She is currently the Director General of the National Research and Restoration Centre (#NRRC). She has been a leader in safeguarding Ukraine's unique cultural heritage throughout the war in Ukraine. She and her team have been traversing the country, often operating perilously close to active hostilities and shelling, to protect and restore artifacts. This work has been done in "heritage ambulances", vehicles equipped with restoration materials driven by heritage professionals throughout the country, and a unique initiative supported by ALIPH through the generous support of the European Commission. These portraits of Svitlana are part of the ALIPH exhibition "Portraits of Women - Beyond the Stones", created in collaboration with the Commission luxembourgeoise pour l’UNESCO and currently on display at neimënster, Luxembourg. 📸 Artem Ilinh 💡 Learn more about Svitlana and the work of NRRC bit.ly/m/aliph #WomenInHeritage #Ukraine #CulturalHeritage #ALIPH #Luxembourg #EU #Getty
