💡I had a blast attending the conference on “Deepfakes, distrust and disinformation” organised by Center for Digital Trust (C4DT) EPFL bringing together an array of experts around the topics of #trust, #disinformation, #misinformation and #AI use in the context of elections. As AI continues to reshape our digital landscape, the fight against disinformation becomes increasingly complex. Here are some key insights on this crucial issue that were discussed: 1. Big Tech, Big Responsibility: leading AI developers must take the helm in creating and implementing solutions to combat #disinformation. With great power comes great accountability. 2. Global Standards for a Global Problem: AI challenges transcend borders. We need international cooperation to establish AI labeling and watermarking standards, similar to those for internet and broadcast media. The World Standards Cooperation is leading this effort. https://lnkd.in/eNVMrmZ5 3. Empowering Users and Systems: the focus should be on developing robust systems and enhancing user awareness to effectively counter #disinformation. 4. UNESCO's Digital Governance Guidelines: these principles aim to foster a safe, open, and accessible internet. Learn more: [UNESCO Guidelines](https://lnkd.in/e2MraFDJ) 5. Platform Initiatives and Civil Society: while major platforms are investing heavily in trust and safety measures, we need to equip civil society with better tools for efficient content reporting across the web. 6. Regulatory Landscape: - The #EUAIAct focuses on transparency requirements for deepfakes. - California recently enacted legislation to combat deepfakes in #USelections. https://lnkd.in/eHDeAeVD This fascinating and fast evolving field demands attention from all corners: legal practionners navigation new regulations, actors generating and sharing content, and individuals in their daily digital interactions.
