People make the difference: an exchange of words with Valerio Averono, Instrumentation and Automation Technician at Cerbios-Pharma SA.   The #Engineering department in a pharmaceutical company is responsible for designing, implementing and maintaining the technical infrastructure necessary for pharmaceutical production.   Valerio Averono (Instrumentation and Automation Technician, part of Engineering department) provides more insights into the crucial role this team plays in ensuring that production processes and equipment are not only efficient and compliant with regulations but also meet the increasingly complex demands of our clients.   Valerio comments: " With the increasing number of #HPAPI and #ADC projects requiring a high level of containment, our priority is to ensure the highest level of operator safety without compromising production efficiency or the quality of the final product. The design of machinery and technical infrastructure is a complex process that requires close collaboration with our suppliers. We work side by side with them to develop customized solutions that meet the highest safety and containment standards, which are essential for handling potentially hazardous or sensitive materials. Each project is unique and must be carefully assessed to ensure that the equipment can provide optimal protection and minimize risks to operators."   The engineering department works closely with all other departments within the company, in particular with Production, and Quality Control.   Talking about this specific point he proceeds: “Thanks to the determination and motivation of our team, we are able to achieve our goals while maintaining high quality and safety at every stage of the process. Collaboration between the various departments is essential, and our ability to quickly resolve problems minimizes downtime and associated costs. In a dynamic environment like ours, operator safety, process efficiency, and the quality of the final product are our top priorities. People make the difference: an exchange of words with Alessandro Vadalà Analytical Validation & Services Specialist at Cerbios-Pharma SA. Analytical R&D is a fascinating field which brings with it different challenges. As an analytical chemist at Cerbios, Alessandro Vadalà shares his experience of dealing with this role and the rewarding relevant aspects. “I daily face several challenges in my role. One of the main is ensuring the accuracy and precision of the analytical methods used for testing. This involves troubleshooting any issues that arise during method development or validation, such as optimizing sample preparation techniques or resolving instrument-related problems. A key point is in parallel staying updated with the latest advancements in analytical techniques and technologies. The field of analytical chemistry is constantly evolving, and it is crucial to continuously learn and adapt to new methodologies and instrumentation. Collaboration is also vital: working effectively as a team requires clear communication, coordination, and understanding of each team member's roles. Open communication and addressing conflicts ensure smooth workflows and successful projects”. Recently ADCs are also bringing new challenges to the R&D team, as complex molecules requiring specialized analytical techniques. Alessandro says about this: "Working with ADCs is very exciting. ADCs are complex molecules that require specialized analytical techniques to characterize and analyze. The combination of chemical and biological components adds another layer of complexity that requires a deep understanding of both disciplines. Next, it is important to assess the stability of the ADC. This includes studying the cohesion between the drug and antibody over time, analyzing the degradation and release of the drug from the antibody, and evaluating whether the ADC forms aggregates or clumps during storage, ultimately determining its shelf life. Finally, it is critical to analyze the activity of the ADC. This includes measuring the effectiveness of the antibody in binding to its target and determining the potency of the conjugated drug in inducing cell death”. Finally, he shares the essential qualities for success in analytical R&D: ●      Curiosity and Problem-Solving ●      Flexibility and Adaptability ●      Strong Problem-Solving Skills "By cultivating these attitudes and skills," he concludes, "analytical chemists can play a vital role in driving innovation, ensuring accurate data, and making a significant contribution to the success of R&D projects." People make the difference: a chat with Myria Camponovo, Customer Care and Service (CC&S) Manager at Cerbios Pharma Myria Camponovo, who can look back on 25 years of experience at Cerbios Pharma, has been leading the reorganized Customer Service department since July 2021. We spoke to her about the increasing role of technology in day-to-day work and the constant challenges her team faces to provide Cerbios partners with exceptional service that ultimately contributes to customer satisfaction and retention. Myria said: "Technology is a valuable tool for our daily work. It has become indispensable. However, I also have concerns, especially with regard to the metaverse and artificial intelligence. Nevertheless, I am firmly convinced that human relationships and individuality will always make the difference. That's why I wholeheartedly support Cerbios' 'People Make the Difference' social media campaign, because I believe that employees play a crucial role in the success of the company." She continued: "We're all committed to providing our customers with high-quality products and reliable service. A high level of customer focus and commitment is a top priority for each of us.
